health services
Call for Expressions of Interest
Alliance South invites expressions of interest from interested individuals to join a
Community Health Council to ensure patient and community perspectives are included as
a core ingredient of how we work together.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of shaping our health services and influencing decision
making within the sector.
Alliance South (a partnership between Southern DHB and WellSouth PHN) is establishing a Community
Health Council which aims to work in partnership with its communities and stakeholders to improve
the health status of all. The Council will provide an opportunity for patients and their communities as
to co-design services, facilities and strategies in the Southern district.
The Community Health Council will work collaboratively with Alliance South and its governance,
management and networks by:





Ensuring and enabling patient and whānau participation across the southern health system;
Identifying and advising on health systems and services for patients and communities, including
input into the development of health service priorities and strategies;
Ensuring reports, developments and initiatives relating to health services have appropriately
engaged, or been developed with, patients and their communities;
Ensuring regular communication and networking with the community and relevant patient
groups and
Linking with special interest groups as required, for specific issues and problem solving.
The Community Health Council will comprise up to twelve members who each have a particular
interest, understanding and knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Youth & Children’s
Health, Māori Health, Pacific Health, Rural Health, Primary Health, Mental Health, Alcohol and other
Drugs, Long Term Conditions, Disability (including Sensory, Physical and Intellectual), Older Persons
Health, Men’s Health and Women’s Health.
The time commitment for these roles would be approximately 8-10 hours per month, which includes
a half day meeting per month. The first Council meeting is planned for Thursday 9th February 2017.
Members will be seen as having good standing and influence amongst members of their peer group.
They will bring to the team an ability to think critically, make sound decisions, see the ‘big picture’ and
work effectively as part of a team.
