Dear Petanque Player

I would like to tell you about the Inter-Regional Competition which is held annually
by the English Petanque Association.
This year it is being held on Hayling Island 16th-17th September.
The competition is for all regions to take part in. The Eastern Region has done well in
the past winning it three times in the early years. The competition has grown and now
there are two divisions.
It is a great way to improve our standard of play, playing against others who have had
a wide experience of the game. It is a very social weekend and we are very proud of
our region and make and renew friends from all round the country.
To qualify to be one of the 12 teams which represent the region we hold three
competitions on 3 Sundays each year. Each team will play the other teams once and
the top 12 qualify. There is the main competition which is for the top 8 players and a
junior team. Then the next four teams play in the shield competition.
Each team consists of 3 or 4 players and the entry fee is £40 per team for the three
days of competition.
We would like to see all players in the region entering this qualifying competition as
it helps everyone’s play to meet others of different standards and unites the region.
This year we are block booking the accommodation for some players so we are all
together to help the team spirit. I have already reserved some chalets so if you are
interested please let me know. If you do not qualify then these can be given back.
