Capitals Baseball Player Code of Conduct (5)

Player and Parent Code of Conduct and Expectations Contract
Mission Statement: The Carson City Capitals Baseball Program is dedicated to providing a positive environment in
which to develop young baseball players throughout the local area while emphasizing the importance of teamwork,
sportsmanship, integrity, and community. We focus on teaching fundamental baseball techniques and developing young
people into successful athletes and community leaders. Our aim is to use baseball as a means of developing local area
youth athletically, academically, and socially in order to give them the tools necessary to lead successful and fulfilling
lives both on and off the baseball field.
Personal Conduct: All players and parents are representatives of the Carson City Capitals Baseball Program, the
Carson City Community, their school, their family, and themselves and they will act accordingly. Any conduct deemed
inappropriate or unbecoming will be dealt with immediately. Punishment by the player's school for violation of
rules/school policy will be enforced by the Capitals Baseball Program as well. Any player and/or parent is subject to
dismissal from the program, by the Board of Directors, for serious or repeat offenses.
Academic Performance: All players involved in the Carson City Capitals Baseball Program must maintain adequate
grades to be determined by the coaching staff. Representation is a privilege. Academic achievement is required.
Athletics should never be used as an excuse to avoid responsibilities in the classroom. Periodic grade checks may occur
at the coach's discretion. Violation of this policy will result in a forced study hall period during practice time until the
player's academics are deemed satisfactory.
Practice and Use of Facilities: During practice, players will be expected to pay attention to coaches, work hard and be
respectful of their fellow teammates. Practice is a time to get in shape and prepare for game situations and should be
taken seriously. Players need to be at practice on time and come properly equipped. Please contact a coach if an issue
arises. Players need to respect and take care of the facilities used for practicing and will be required to clean up after
themselves. Damage caused by a player to a facility is their parents' responsibility. Parents are not to become a
distraction during practice times. Practice is a time of instruction between the players and the coaches, not the parents.
Parents are not to be on the field or in the facility at any time. Practices may be closed at the coaches' discretion.
Alcohol is prohibited at all practice and game facilities.
Tournament and Game Conduct: Tournaments and games are the time in which players display the hard work they
have put in preparing and getting better. Games are competitive and playing time is at the discretion of the coach (no
minimum play mandate exists). Players need to encourage and support each other at all times. Arguments with umpires,
coaches, parents, or other players and/or mistreating equipment will not be tolerated. Sportsmanship will be displayed
at all times before, during and after each game. Contact with anyone outside the dugout or playing field needs to be kept
to a minimum. Pre-game warm ups are vital to game success and should be treated as such. Mistakes will happen and
errors will be made: it's part of the game, but players should learn from their mistakes and understand that the team
needs them to stay positive and turn the page. Parents are not welcome in dugouts or on the field at any time during a
game.
Participation in Local Leagues: In order for a player to be eligible for selection to the Carson City Capitals Baseball
Program, he/she must participate in Carson City Little League or the equivalent. Each player is expected to abide by the
rules and policies of the Capitals Baseball Program during participation in recreational leagues. A waiver may be
obtained through the Board of Directors.
Personal Dress and Appearance: A dress code may be implemented and enforced by the coach. All players will be in
uniform during games which includes hat, uniform shirt, baseball pants, belt, socks, and cleats. Players should dress
neatly at all times and remember they are representatives of the Capitals Baseball Program, their community, their
school, their family, and themselves.
Grievances/Questions: Any grievance, question, problem, concern in regard to a given activity should be discussed
with the player agent at an appropriate time. During or immediately following practice or a game is not the proper time.
