Canvas LTI Tool Setup for Sherpath

LTI TOOL SETUP – Canvas LMS:
The following steps will guide you through the LTI setup process to access Elsevier
Products and gather the information needed to allow outcomes to pass back to the
course on your local LMS.

Login into your Canvas system
Navigate to the course shell where you want to add the Sherpath link
Click on “Settings” then click on the “Apps” Tab

To configure an app, click the “View App Configurations” button

Click the “Add App” Button

Select the Configuration Type drop-down menu and set the configuration type to
Manual Entry then enter the following:
Name: Sherpath (or whatever you prefer)
Consumer Key: [enter key here]
Shared Secret: [enter shared secret here]
Launch URL: https://authgateway.elsevier.com/oauth/launch
Domain: Leave Blank
Privacy: Public
Custom Fields: collection_id=xxxxxxxxxxxxx
*If using multiple collections, enter ISBN followed by space (ex. collection_id=9780323476543 978032347xxxx)

Click “Submit”
Click on the “Modules” tab
Click “+ Module” to create a new module

Enter Module Name: Sherpath (or whatever you prefer) click “Add Module”

Click on the “+” next to the newly created module

On the Add Item page, select “External Tool” from the drop down menu
Select app you created in previous step

Load in a new tab: checked
Click “Add Item”

Clicking on the link will bring the user to the following screen
If you’d like to configure your Canvas LMS for outcomes (grade reporting), please do the
following
1. Login as Admin
2. Click on the “Account” tab then click on “Settings”
3. Scroll down to “Approved Integrations”
4. Click “+ New Access Token”
5. Click “Generate Token”
Note: Please copy token immediately. Once you leave this page you won’t be able to
retrieve the full token anymore, you’ll have to regenerate it to get a new value.
6. Send token to Elsevier via HighTail: details below
a. Paste Access Token to a text or Word document and save the file locally
b. Visit www.hightail.com
c. Sign up for a free account
d. Once you are signed in click the “Send files”
button at the top of
the screen
i. To: [email protected]
ii. Subject: Canvas Outcomes Setup Details from {School Name}
e. Attach the saved file with the Access Token details
f. Click “Next”
g. Click “Send”
7. You will receive an email within 24-48 hours from Integration Support with the final
steps needed to establish outcomes
