NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award Guidelines

NEWMAC Sportsmanship Awards Guidelines
This award is designed to acknowledge the institution that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely
demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct.
Student-athletes should consider the NEWMAC Sportsmanship and Game Management Principles when
voting on this award. With these as a guide, please rank the teams within your sport with the team you
feel consistently demonstrated good sportsmanship and ethical behavior during their season number one.
Do not vote for your own team. Members of the coaching staff are not allowed to vote. Coaches can
conduct the voting process in the manner that is most conducive to them and their team.
The vote can take place anytime after the end of the regular and post-season play for your teams so that
coaches can bring their team’s vote to the end-of-year NEWMAC coaches meeting.
The three institutions with the most points will be your team’s top three nominations for the NEWMAC
Sportsmanship Award for your sport. Coaches should bring the top three nominations to the annual postseason coaches' meeting so that the liaison or the SID liaison for that sport can tally them. All #1
nominations are awarded five points, #2 nominations are awarded three points and #3 nominations are
awarded one point.
In case of a tie at the conference level, the team with the most number one votes between the tied teams
will be named the winner. If first place votes do not break the tie, then the team with the most first and
second place votes will be named the winner. If the tie is still unbroken, the team with the most first,
second and third place votes will be named the winner. If there is still a tie, the tie will stand.
