ONCE UPON A TIME
SHELBY HINTON
Shelby Hinton works in a range of media including metal, wood,
wax, pen and charcoal. She is drawn to using symbolic elements
in her work such as flowers.
These drawings are a combination from the series Salt Fork, the
smaller pen drawings, and a new series of white charcoal on
black paper. Both series are exploratory; Salt Fork focused on a
connection to a geographical place, specifically her
grandmother’s. While this new series is more self-exploratory
through self-portraits that include symbolic elements from fairy
tales including an apple, mirror and comb.
Recently graduated from Oklahoma State University with her
Bachelors of Fine Art, with a focus in sculpture and a secondary
focus in drawing, and a minor in Art History. She has exhibited
multiple times at OSU, including the Botanical Gardens and
Orange Grove, with site specific installations. Her work has been
awarded Honorable Mention at OSU Research Week. Currently
Hinton is the preparator intern at Tulsa’s 108 Contemporary
gallery.
