GO International
Work and Travel Providers
Camp Canada Work Program
GO International Work & Travel Providers, an operating Division of Tamwood International, is a study,
work and travel provider with its head office in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The Camp Canada Work Program, also known as “CCWP”, is a program that meets the demands of
Canadian summer camps for summer staff, while enabling international young people to earn some
income to support their holiday in Canada. GO International provides valuable assistance to participants
in settling in, finding a summer camp job and getting to know Canada. This program is offered to
participants only through Go International’s overseas partners.
Young people can spend an absolutely amazing summer working in Canada and truly “experience” the
people, the unique beauty and the adrenaline rush that you can only get from this country. Participants in
this program meet locals, gain international work experience, earn money to travel and make the most of
their Working holiday in Canada with us.
Visa
Most applicants will enter Canada on a Working Holiday Program Work Permit. This visa is available to
citizens of certain countries only. Contact GO International if you are not sure if this visa is available in
your country and to get information on application procedures, deadlines and quotas. Applicants who are
willing to volunteer (work for free) at a charitable camp do not need to apply for the working holiday visa
as they are allowed to obtain a work permit which is fee exempt by presenting a copy of their job offer.
However, this permit names the camp as their employer and they will not be allowed to work for anyone
else after their camp job ends.
All participants must undergo a medical examination by a designated medical officer before applying for
their work permit as they will be working in direct contact with children.
6
Participant Eligibility Requirements
Participants must:
1.
be 18-35 years of age;
2.
have a good command of the English language;
3.
have a strong sense of commitment;
4. be 18-35 and in good health;
5. have some practical work experience working with children or teenagers
6. have some personal experience/training in sports or arts
7.
In possession of a valid Passport.
8. Able to document proof of sufficient funds in order to financially support himself/herself upon
arrival in Canada
Work Opportunities
Participants in the CCWP will be placed in a summer camp as a camp counsellor, kitchen worker, or activity
instructor. Participants can request work in either a paid job or as a volunteer at a charitable camp.
Charitable camps provide summer camp experiences to children living in poverty, handicapped children,
children with illnesses like cancer and other special needs kids. Tamwood works with summer camps in
British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario. Tamwood cannot guarantee the location or position and applicants
must be prepared to accept what ever position they are assigned. Tamwood will attempt to place
applicants according to their preferences, but assignments will also be determined according to applicants’
experience, language skills, education, maturity, enthusiasm, date of application and program duration as
well as the availability of positions at that time.
Participants who are assigned to jobs outside Vancouver will be given advice and assistance in booking
their travel from Vancouver to their place of work. Participants are responsible for the cost of their
transportation to their place of work.
Wage
The minimum hourly wage in British Columbia is C$8.00 and most camps pay a wage plus provide room
and board.
Start Dates and Duration of Program
Summer camps mostly operate in July and August. A few will start in June. Most camps
require staff to report 3-7 days before the camp officially starts to attend training and
work at camp set up. Therefore you can apply any time of the year but you must apply to start a job
at the beginning of the summer season (June to early July). The program orientation is given in the GO
7
International offices in Vancouver twice a month (on Fridays). Check the price sheet for the coming year’s
orientation dates.

“JOB OFFER” from GO International:
"Job Offer/Job Placement" is defined as an offer of employment from 5 days to 6 months duration. The
participant must be willing to accept any reasonable offer of employment. A "reasonable offer" is defined
as a position meeting the participant’s qualifications within the summer camp industry in Canada.
Job offers will be in the Province of British Columbia, Ontario or Quebec unless otherwise stated.
A refusal to accept a reasonable offer will constitute the immediate forfeiture of the Job Offer Option.
A minimum English level equivalent to Cambridge FCE is required for all employment offered.
Participants who are offered a position outside Vancouver agree to travel at their own expense to the
location of the employment. The distance may be greater than 500 kms.
How does the Job Offer process work?
We bring the employers to you! Participants have a face-to-face interview with a Canadian employer at a
hiring fair in their own country or they have their interview by telephone before leaving their home
country. We assign you to an employer based on your dates, skills, training and personality. In assigning
you to a job, we will consider your preferences regarding location and type of job but we may not be able
to offer you a position that meets your preferences and you should be prepared to take what ever
position you are given. If successful in your interview, you will be offered a job prior to leaving your
country. You won’t waste time and money trying to find a job along with everyone else- you already will
have one!
Accommodation in Vancouver
Accommodation on arrival is provided to participants at a backpackers hostel located in the centre of
Vancouver, only 5 minutes walking distance from the GO International office. Participants seeking work
outside Vancouver can get accommodation ideas and booking assistance for the place they are going
from the GO International Program Coordinator. Participants can book extra nights at the Vancouver
hostel in advance or on the spot (subject to availability) at GO International’s preferred rates.
DAY 1 – Arrival Day
Before they arrive, Participants will receive an email from GO International welcoming them to Vancouver
and reminding them of the schedule for the orientation day. Participants are also sent a voucher for the
Airport Shuttle Bus Service and instructions on how to find the shuttle at the airport with their welcome
email.
9
The Airport Shuttle drops participants only a few blocks from their hostel. Participants’ accommodation is
pre-booked by GO International and participants only need to give their name at time of check-in.
FIRST FRIDAY-Welcome and Orientation Day
Participants will be met at the hostel at a designated time by a GO international staff member who will
then escort them to the GO International office located 5 minutes walk away.
What is the purpose of the Orientation?
ƒ

ƒ

Social Insurance Application Office and other important stops in the downtown core.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S)
Can I extend my working status or program?
There is no visa extension under the Working Holiday program.
Can I change my visa status?
Participants who want to work in healthcare and work with minors can request a change of status with
Immigration Canada. This only applies for participants coming from countries where there is an “open
employer” policy, meaning the visa is not employer specific. No other visa changes are possible within
Canada.
Can I apply for my visa before securing a job?
If you are from the UK you must have a letter with a job offer from an employer in order to apply for your
working holiday visa. If you are from other countries that have a Working Holiday Visa Agreement with
Canada, you can apply for your visa without a job offer and obtain your job offer after getting your visa.
If you are not from a country that has the working holiday visa or SWAP, your only option is to work in a
charitable camp and in that case you need the job offer to get the work permit.
What kind of people are you looking for?
We are looking for people who are outgoing, hard working, able to work the full season and who really
want to be in Canada. Some jobs require a certain skill set but most do not. Experience working with
kids/teenagers and customer service experience is always a plus.
Can I go with a friend or partner?
Yes of course you can go with a friend or partner! We have a lot of success with friends/partners getting
jobs at the same resort. Please do be prepared, though, that you may not both receive a job offer as it is
subject to the interview process and we can’t guarantee you will both be accepted. Be aware, the larger
the group, the tougher it may be to succeed at interviews and to be offered positions at the same resort.
Can I specify a particular position that I want to apply for?
Yes – you can certainly tell the interviewer that you want to apply for a particular position. We
recommend that you state a preference, however, flexibility is an attractive trait for employers and if you
are not flexible you may not get a job!
Will I have to do an interview with the employer?
Employers will want to talk with you by phone or in person to ask more questions and have the chance to
tell you more about their job, before hiring you. Some employers will be traveling overseas to conduct
face-to-face interviews with candidates. If you are interviewed by phone, your job offer may be
conditional on you having a successful face to face interview before your job starts.
11
What happens if I am not offered a job?
You will be given a full refund or you can apply for the Canadian Working Holiday Program and seek a job
in another field.
What if I am offered a position I don’t want?
Unfortunately, if you are offered a position and do not wish to accept it then you forfeit your work
placement fee. The Work and Study team has taken in to consideration your previous work experience
and job preference and have assigned you to a host summer camp company that best suites your profile.
Once a student has been placed Tamwood is under no obligation to find a secondary job placement.
Can I use the same Social Insurance number for different employers?
Yes. Once you are issued a Social Insurance number, it is your number for life.
What are the participant’s tax responsibilities?
GO International participants with paid jobs must pay all federal and provincial taxes. All participants are
required to file a tax declaration by the Canada tax-filing deadline (April 30). Tax filing is required by the
Canadian government and necessary for the participant to recover some of the taxes he/she may have
overpaid to Revenue Canada on his/her paycheck. The Federal tax form -- T1 Non-Resident TAX RETURN
FOR CERTAIN NON-RESIDENT ALIENS -- may be downloaded from the Revenue Canada website:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/formspubs/request-e.html . You can also utilize a tax preparation company.
You will find detailed tax information in the Manual you will receive on arrival and in your first day
orientation with GO International.
Can I work at more than one job, for more than 3 months…?
On an open working holiday visa, you are eligible to work for more than one employer. If you elect to
work for multiple employers you need to respect and follow through with all your work commitments.
You can also work at any job for any period of time up to the end date for your visa.
How much does it cost to live in Canada?
Summer camps usually provide free room and board. If you choose toe work at a day camp, then you will
have to find your own accommodation. What you spend will depend on you. Most participants quickly
find cheap shared accommodation and by sharing meals they can also keep their food costs low. Posters
for shared accommodation are always up in GO International’s offices and the staff can assist you in
finding advertisements for shared accommodation in the local papers. Some resorts provide staff housing.
How you spend your free time will determine a lot what you spend. In Canada, especially in Vancouver,
there are a lot of fun things you can do for free or almost nothing. You will get some ideas from The
Essential Guide to Canada that you will receive on your arrival.
Is assistance available if a participant runs out of money during the program?
GO International can advise you how to wire money in order to access funds from your home country.
GO International is not in the position to give out money loans to participants. It is your responsibility to
budget your money wisely.
When should I apply for the program
Register your interest now! Space on the program is already filling fast so the earlier the better. Visas for
Canada are limited. We would not want you to miss out. At the latest, you should apply by beginning of
March.
Will I need to take out travel insurance?
It is compulsory for all foreign applicants to purchase travel insurance covering them for the duration of
their employment with a Canadian employer, regardless of whether or not you think you may be eligible
for Company Benefits. GO International has very affordable and comprehensive travel insurance available.
12
Can GO International help me book tours and accommodation?
Absolutely! We have great deals on tour packages and accommodation options –just let us know what we
can do for you.
What happens if I leave my job?
If you decided to leave your job or get fired before your predetermined end date, no other position will
be offered or sourced by GO International
How much will I work?
Most summer camps require staff to work long days and to work 6 days a week.
Where will I live if I start with a language course at Tamwood?
Homestay accommodation is available to students when they are studying full time at Tamwood. All
homestays are carefully selected and offer three meals a day (breakfast, dinner and a packed lunch).
How do I travel to my job if I am not working in Vancouver?
It is easy to organize transport to the summer camps where we offer work placements. Most are located
close to cities or towns that are serviced by bus or train service. The camps will usually arranged to pick
you up from the closest train or bus station.
Will I need a uniform?
Some jobs require staff to wear a uniform and they will provide it.

10. GI will only start the job search after it has received the program fees or, at a minimum, a deposit of C$300.
11. Once GI has received the C$300 deposit, GI will assign the applicant to an employer using the applicant’s
