Our Questions & Some
Predictions
Our question was: will a plant grow faster with normal water vs. sugar water
Predictions:
1.
I think that the sugar water pots will grow faster because sugar water can help
plants grow, although excessive amounts are harmful.
2.
I think that the pots with normal water take a bit more time to grow because
they do not have the extra help from the sugar
3.
I think that the sugar water plants will sprout in time for this project to be due
4.
I think that the plant with regular water will sprout but won’t be as big as the
sugar water plants
5.
Will the sugar water actually have an affect on the soil? Or will it have the
same affect as regular water.
Materials
– Soil
– Seeds (we used shelling peas and haricot beans)
– Water
– Sugar Water (just put some sugar in some water)
– Pots
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1: Buy all the materials if you don’t have them
Step 2: Fill pots with soil half way full
Step 3: Add your seeds to the pots and then cover up the seeds with soil until pots
are full
Step 4: Add some normal water to your pots for the day
Step 5: After the first day has passed you will give one plant normal water and the
other plant give it sugar water
Risks & Safety
– We do not have any safety concerns or risks since we are just dealing with some
sugar water and seeds
Photo Progress
Day 1 – Jan. 17th
Day 7 – Jan. 24th
VS
Sugar Peas – Jan 24th
Regular Peas – Jan 24th
Sugar Haricot – Jan 24th
Regular Haricot – Jan 24th
Conclusion
– In conclusion our predictions were wrong and it turns out that the seeds that
were being watered with regular water grew faster and bigger than the one
with sugar water.
– Also that the haricot plants didn’t grow at all and the pea plants did.
