Visit to the landfill and Mechanical Biological Treatment facility "Schöneiche"

The landfill exists since 1975 and has 123 gas wells which capture the
produced landfill gas and forward it to a cogeneration (CHP) plant to
produce electricity and heat

The mechanical-biological treatment facility treats the municipal waste
with capacity of 180,000 t/a to produce Refused derived Fuel (RDF)
which could be co-combusted in cement facilities and coal power
plants
