Prerequisite:
These lessons can either be taught by a teacher of Biology and English
or by an English teacher in cooperation with a Biology teacher.
Another important prerequisite is the access to computers for all students
including head sets. Furthermore a beamer will be needed.

Personal aim:
My aim is to combine new media tools with lively speaking and writing activities
in class. Movies and virtual journeys should animate the students to seriously
deal with “Organic farming“ which is a “hot“ topic.

2
Setting the task
I show an overhead transparency with the description the
situation and the aim of the role play and read out the

I ask if situation and aim of the activity are clear to all sts
and add information if necessary

Organisation
group formation:
1.) I ask sts to count from 1-6
2.) all sts with number 1 go together and all sts with a 2,
etc.
organisation of space:
3.) I ask groups to go together and find some rather quiet
place; a possibility would be to position 4 groups in the
corners of the room and one group in the middle
4.) I ask sts to take their chairs and sit down in circles;
they should also take paper and pens with them; one
student will be assigned to write down the end results
5.) The desks should be moved aside more
communicative!

Execution of the
task
I supply each group with 6 different role cards and put
them on the table face down.
Each st takes one card; the st who is going to be
Mr/Mrs Jackson is assigned to make notes;
I ask sts to read their role descriptions at least 2 times. I
walk around and ask sts if the roles are clear to them
I open the activity and set a time limit of approximately
20 min within which the task should be fulfilled; before
starting the discussion, the sts briefly introduce
themselves;
During the role play, I will act as an observer and
prompter.

Follow-up
The groups are asked to report back their results to the
other students. Each group has 2-3 min time to report
back.
