Camp China: Summer Session for Tourism Confucius Institute and Griffith Students
Go to China, learn the Chinese language first-hand and experience China’s winter wonderland! The Tourism Confucius Institute
(TCI) at Griffith University is offering the 2015 Camp China -Summer Session for TCI and Griffith students learning Chinese. This
two-week program is designed to promote better understanding between the Australian and Chinese people. Through
classroom study and excursion you will have a unique opportunity to embrace the Chinese language, culture, people and a rich
cultural heritage. The Camp China program will improve your communication skills and provide you with an unforgettable
experience. Cultural travel is the best way to broaden your world outlook!






What do you pay for the Camp China Program?
 Your round trip international flights (estimated $ 1,500 - $2,000)
 International travel insurance
 Visa application fee (at least $60.00, depending on the type of visa)
Eligibility for Applicants:
 You must have a valid Australian passport and China visa
 You are a TCI student and
 you have completed three terms, or
 you have completed two terms and are registered for a third term, or
 you have a valid HSK certificate
 Or you are a Griffith University student
 studying Chinese (including graduating students in summer 2014), or
 you have a valid HSK certificate
 You are capable of travelling internationally in terms of health
Application and Registration
Applicants must send a completed application form and a deposit of $500.00 to Shannon Shan at [email protected]
The TCI reserves the right to cancel the tour if there are less than five applicants, in which case a full refund of the deposit
will be issued. Otherwise the deposit is not refundable but will be put in as a part of the airfare. The deposit is nonrefundable if the cancellation is made by the applicant due to a change of mind or circumstances.
The maximum size of the camp is 18 students, so you are welcome to submit your application as soon as possible. The
confirmation of the application will be based on the dates of your submission.


Day 1-17 January 2015:
 Departure from Brisbane to Guangzhou
 Arrive in Guangzhou, stay overnight at Guangzhou
Day 2-18 January:
 Fly to Xuzhou
 Check in to the Guest House Hotel at the China University of Mining & Technology (CUMT)
 CUMT Wenchang Campus Tour
 Camp launch ceremony
 Language and culture learning
 Welcome Evening Banquet by CUMT
Day 3-19 January:
 Language and culture learning
 Visit the Coal & Mining Museum at CUMT (CUMT volunteer-guided tour)
 CUMT Library tour (CUMT volunteer-guided tour)
 Visit the CUMT students’ accommodation at Southlake Campus (CUMT volunteer-guided tour)
Day 4-20 January:
 Language and culture learning
 Visit the Xuzhou Museum
 Visit the local community for square/park dancing
Day 5-21 January:
 Language and culture learning
 Visit the Museum of Xuzhou Customs
 CBD language excursion
Day 6-22 January:
 Language and culture learning
 Experience the local people’s morning exercises
 Visit the Han Tomb at Guishan (Han Dynasty)
Day 7-23 January:
 Traditional Chinese culture learning
 Farewell arts performance
 Local family visit in groups (CUMT volunteer-guided tour)
Day 8-24 January:
 Fly to Harbin and hotel check in
 Bus tour to the Yabuli Ski Resort (the largest ski resort in Asia) for skiing
 Taste the north eastern Chinese local food
 Cable car tour to a snowy mountain peak
Day 9-25 January:
 Visit the Songhua River Ice Arts Centre
 Visit the Sun Bridge
 Harbin City Tour
Day 10-26 January:
 Flight to Beijing and hotel check in
 Visit the Confucius Institute Headquarters
Day 11-27 January
 Visit The Great Wall
 Visit the Royal Gardens: The Summer Palace
 Visit the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games site: Nest and Water Cube
Day 12-28 January:
 Visit Tian’anmen Square ( the largest square in the world)
 Visit the Forbidden city ( The Imperial Palace)
 Language excursion in Xiushui Market
Day 13-29 January:
 Fly from Beijing to Guangzhou
 Fly from Guangzhou to Brisbane
Day 14-30 January:
 Arrive in Brisbane

