Market Structure Project
In this project, you will identify the characteristics of four different markets and their
structures. You will also provide a case study of an industry within each of these different
market structures. You may choose to work individually, with a partner, or as part of a
group.
Directions:
1. Choose whether to work alone, with a partner, or within a group of no more than 4
students.
2. Research the characteristics of each of the following market structures: perfectly
competitive, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly.
3. Identify and research an industry that fits the characteristics you identified for each
of the market structures. While the industry doesn’t have to be a PERFECT match, it
must possess the majority of the characteristics you identified.
4. Create a visual presentation of your research that can be presented to the rest of the
class (time dependent). This could be in the form of a poster board, a PowerPoint or
Prezi presentation, or a video. Please note that there is a degree of
difficulty/creativity reward for more elaborate and/or creative presentations!
5. If time allows, present your research to the class. Since this project is due towards
the end of the quarter, if time does not allow, I will review your presentation outside
of class. So you want to make sure your presentation is informative and does not
require you to actually “present” it in person!

4. A case study of each of these industries that includes a description of the
products/services offered by the industry, how the industry possesses the
characteristics of the market structure, and an example of a firm or entity that
