1. A recreational oasis in a densely populated area A very high plot ratio (number of buildings) on Aarhus Ø and by Basin 7 leaves a rather limited area for recreational activities, apart from the projected bathing area and tower commanding a wide view. How can this area best be utilized for a recreational space that can be used throughout the year, when it is impossible to get an area the size of e.g. football courts? 2. Temporary activities Two examples of temporary initiatives to create an attractive milieu for young people on Aarhus Ø are the ‘Beach Bar’, which is very popular during the summer, and the Dome of Visions, which has been used for, amongst other things, a music venue. However, the Beach Bar is closed during the winter, and Dome of Visions was just on loan for a while. How can we create new, temporary spaces for similar social activities and events, which are attractive and create life and social communities for young people throughout the year, even in our cold ‘Land of the Vikings’ 3. Create a Campus The four student dormitories on Aarhus Ø are separated by a very narrow space, which is typically completely deserted and rather functions as a ‘wind tunnel’ than the cozy, social campus area and natural meeting place for young students that the builders originally had imagined. How can we create a milieu between the four buildings that actually is an attractive setting for a real campus life, not only inside, but also outside - between the buildings? 4. A digital ’village hall’ As a social space the new building development on Aarhus Ø has not yet established its own traditions, so it needs to create – and strengthen – an inner socializing force , a kind of ‘village hall’. Similarly, the area would also benefit from being marketed to the outside world; narrated as a good story. But social relations and good stories do not only flourish physically, they can also thrive in virtual spaces, so: How can we employ digital media and virtual spaces to… a) Create and strengthen an inner socializing force on Aarhus Ø - e.g. virtual events, amusement parks or the like? b) Narrate a good story about the area, which markets it to the outside world? This means: How can we create a ’digital village hall’ for the area – internally (a) as well as externally (b)? The problem your group has identified 2. Your solution to this problem 3. Argumentation as to why your solution is realistic and attainable
