Lots of Energy in Fall Groups T P eens got a rare chance to pamper themselves a bit, while they learned about the importance of life-long, good skin care at the first after-school Parenteen group at Charlottesville High School last week. arenting teens are meeting at area high schools regularly again this fall, with CHiP teen coordinator, Torri Ayers, and Teensight coordinator, Laura Miller . While soaking their feet in a pre-pedicure tub of warm water, 10 girls got tips on the cheapest, simplest beauty strategy of all: healthy skin. Cleanse. Exfoliate. Freshen. Moisturize. Use sunscreen. Voila! The meetings are times when teens can honTorri Ayers and Laura Miller, coordinators estly discuss difficult topics, get accurate information, and receive encouragement to work toward their goals. So far this year, the groups have focused on: Nareen Scott, Beauty Consultant, and at one time a teen mother herself, encouraged everyone in the room not to forget the basics, and to stick to inexpensive, readilyavailable products. She had a few key messages: healthy skin shows that you care about yourself, and gives you confidence in the face you present to the world. In addition, the few moments it takes to care for your skin can be a time to rejuvenate your spirit as well as your body during a busy day, and a chance to de-stress with a little pampering! A baby’s first set of teeth holds the space where permanent teeth will eventually be and helps permanent teeth grow in straight. To care for your baby’s teeth, here are some suggestions: Clean new teeth every day. When the teeth first come in, clean them by rubbing them gently with a clean wet washcloth. When the teeth are bigger, use a child’s toothbrush. Don’t let your baby go to sleep with a bottle. This can leave milk or juice sitting on the teeth and cause cavities that are known as “baby-bottle tooth decay.” Children under 2 years of age shouldn’t use tooth- Participate...Learn...Earn paste. Instead, use water to brush your child’s teeth. Teach your child how to brush their teeth and the importance of keeping their teeth clean.
