Peak Conditioning — for skin!
Lots of Energy in Fall Groups
T
P
eens got a rare chance to pamper themselves a
bit, while they learned about the importance of
life-long, good skin care at the first after-school Parenteen group at Charlottesville High School last week.
arenting teens are meeting at area high schools
regularly again this fall, with CHiP teen coordinator, Torri Ayers, and Teensight coordinator, Laura
Miller .
While soaking their feet in a pre-pedicure tub of warm
water, 10 girls got tips on the cheapest, simplest
beauty strategy of all: healthy skin. Cleanse. Exfoliate.
Freshen. Moisturize. Use sunscreen. Voila!
The
meetings are
times
when
teens
can honTorri Ayers and Laura Miller, coordinators estly discuss
difficult topics, get accurate information, and receive
encouragement to work toward their goals. So far
this year, the groups have focused on:
Nareen Scott, Beauty Consultant, and at one time a teen
mother herself, encouraged
everyone in the room not to
forget the basics, and to stick
to inexpensive, readilyavailable products. She had a
few key messages: healthy
skin shows that you care about
yourself, and gives you confidence in the face you present
to the world. In addition, the
few moments it takes to care
for your skin can be a time to rejuvenate
your spirit as well as your body during a
busy day, and a chance to de-stress with
a little pampering!

Dental care is important from birth throughout your
life. A baby’s first set of teeth holds the space where
permanent teeth will eventually be and helps permanent teeth grow in straight. To care for your baby’s
teeth, here are some suggestions:
 Clean new teeth every day. When the teeth first
come in, clean them by rubbing them gently with a
clean wet washcloth. When the teeth are bigger,
use a child’s toothbrush.
 Don’t let your baby go to sleep with a bottle. This
can leave milk or juice sitting on the teeth and
cause cavities that are known as “baby-bottle tooth
decay.”
 Children under 2 years of age shouldn’t use tooth-

paste. Instead, use water to brush your child’s
teeth.
 Teach your child how to brush their teeth and the
importance of keeping their teeth clean.
