The Arthur Buchan Shield 2016
The Arthur Buchan Shield is a Rugby Union Competition for under 16 boys. The structure of the competition has
evolved in recent years, and is initially run in a gala day format. A number of gala days will be run across the state by
the NSW Rugby Union Development Officers and are geared toward promoting participation in the early stages of
the competition.
The second stage of the Arthur Buchan Shield reverts to a traditional knockout structure. The best placed (winning)
State High Schools (16 in total), from each of the state wide gala days, then enter a home and away draw with the
winner from each game progressing through to the next round. This section of the draw will be managed by the
Arthur Buchan Shield Coordinator (Andrew Fitzgerald The Ponds High School) with the two finalists playing in the
State Knockout finals day on Wednesday 31st August 2016.
The Sports High schools have been withdrawn from the Arthur Buchan Shield Proper and now play in their own
version of the Arthur Buchan Shield and will play in a series of games between the competing Sports high schools
which will culminate on the State Knockout finals day on Wednesday 31st August 2016.
Schools who have entered via the State Knockout nomination process in November each year, will be required to
complete the nomination form attached to finalise their intentions to compete in their regions gala day. Once this
has been completed the schools will be contacted by the Development Officer in their region regarding the specific
details of the gala day they have entered.
