2016-2017 SURGE Upcoming Events

Sault SURGE Upcoming Swim Meets
If you do not know you child’s current swim times, please go to the Swim Canada Website at
https://www.swimming.ca/en/ and in the “SEARCH” space on the top left, enter your swimmer’s name
(first and last), hit search and then select your child from the list that appears. This will take you to a
current listing of your child’s best times for you to verify if they meet any qualifying standards. This may
also be a good exercise to do with your child to set new goals.

may not swim or to give them a chance to improve times in their best events to qualify for
upcoming meets (Markham Invitational, Kensit SC Championships, Winter Festival, PWI in
Winnipeg etc).
Please feel free to sign back into your accounts (EDIT COMMITMENT) to see what your child is
swimming at these events….once coaches have entered your swimmer in events, you can see
them listed too!





Registration deadline has passed, entries are being submitted today, you can view entries by
logging into Team Unify, under EVENT and then EDIT COMMITMENT
This is a Yard meet and is a good opportunity for many athletes to swim at a large meet, in a
‘short’ pool and against swimmers they don’t know.
Because it is Yards, it may not help swimmers to qualify for some upcoming events
Format is a little different than what we are used to as it is an “A, B, C” meet, meaning that 3
different levels (tiers) of swimmers will be competing at this meet
January 13-15th – Markham Winter Invitational in Markham, Ontario


Geared to qualifiers swimmers at Age Group Level or higher – this is NOT MANDATORY
Registration deadline has already passed but still opportunities to obtain more times to swim and
if this meet no longer works for your family, cancellation can still occur before the final entries are
required in December.

If your child qualifies for Dave Kensit SC Championships at this meet, there is still time for your

enter your child events but if your child does qualify in at NEOR #3 in Elliot Lake, please sign your
child up on or before January 23rd.





This meet is designed for those that meet the qualifying times, qualifying times are listed below
Please note that 50s (Fly, Back, Breast) do not count for qualifying to attend this meet so you will
see a transition at the upcoming NEOR meets in particular where your swimmer may be
focussing on longer distances.
Please talk to your swimmer’s coach if you have questions about this meet or qualifications
Coaches will be discussing with each swimmer their goals, for many swimmers, it is their goal to
qualify for this meet.
February 18-19th – Winter Festival in Etobicoke, Ontario




This meet is designed for any 14 and Under Swimmers that meet the qualifying times (not based
on Training Group levels).
Please note that 50s (Fly, Back, Breast) do not count for qualifying to attend this meet so you will
see a transition at the upcoming NEOR meets in particular where your swimmer may be
focussing on longer distances.
Due to the close proximity of this meet to the Prairie Winter Invitational (PWI) in Winnipeg
(replacing Age Group Provincials for Sault Surge), swimmers qualified for Festivals may choose
to attend PWI instead.
Please talk to your swimmer’s coach if you have questions about this meet or qualifications.
March 2-5th – Prairie Winter Invitational (PWI) in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Geared to qualifiers swimmers at Age Group Level or higher – this is NOT MANDATORY but

Only one qualifying time is required to attend and athlete will receive 5 bonus swims
Due to the close proximity of this meet to Ontario Winter Festivals, swimmers qualified for
Festivals may choose to attend this meet instead.
