We organized lectures by James Timberlake, Julie Snow, John Norquist, Mark Sexton, Jon Calame, and Douglas Farr. Exploration Day Session Leader: Spring 2009 Writing Committee 2008-2013 “Committee on Recommendations for Incorporating Writing in the College Curriculum” I have served as committee chair, responsible for the organization of the committee and its work, communications with colleagues in the college and with Faculty Council, and for writing much of the 2009 final report. I summarized the recommendations of the report and put them into a form that could be incorporated into individual course syllabi and distributed this to the faculty. The findings of the committee were reiterated for the faculty in the fall of 2011 with the request that Faculty council and the Curriculum Committee consider specific curricular actions. We incorporated the group in the State of Michigan in September 2005 as the Allen Creek Greenway Conservancy. We have been granted 501.3.c status under federal law and have created a proposed route for the Greenway. The ACGC has sponsored and cooperated with several studies of the Greenway. The economics of the Greenway were examined, several years ago, by graduate students at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. This fall, a group of graduate students in the Urban and Regional Planning Program at the University of Michigan will develop and propose a master plan for the Greenway. Currently, I am working with my ACGC colleague, Joe O’Neal, to advise inForm Architects on their draft proposal for the “SkyTrail” project, a bridge crossing North Main Street in Ann Arbor. The propose bridge would connect the Allen Creek Greenway with existing trails along the Huron River. Urban Design Advocates Ann Arbor, Michigan, 2000-2002 UDA, an ad hoc urban design action group, prepared a “Greater Downtown Ann Arbor Urban Design Principles and Checklist” as a guide for citizens, developers, and civic officials in March 2000. We also met with the Democratic (majority) caucus of the Ann Arbor City Council to promote a thoughtful approach to the proposed expansion of City Hall. In 2002, we developed a “Prospectus for an Ann Arbor Downtown Greenway” which also addressed storm water issues associated with Allen’s Creek. Property Planning Committee / Huron Valley Girl Scout Council Ann Arbor, Michigan, Fall 2001-Spring 2002 The Property Planning Committee was appointed by the HVGSC Board to study and prepare a set of recommendations for the development of the Council’s three camps over the next 20 years. We prepared a report outlining options for the Council.
