WHO WANTS TO PLAY COMPETITION BASKETBALL?
Lilydale West Primary School & the SEBC Saints Basketball Club
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Lilydale West Primary School has created a very successful partnership with the SEBC Saints Basketball Club,
as an alternative to participation in the After School Basketball Competition. The Saints are the biggest club
in the Kilsyth & Mountain District Basketball Association, and offer a fantastic launching pad for getting
children involved in competition basketball. The aim is to create teams to play in the domestic basketball
competition, made up of children from Lilydale West. The children will play together for their first season
of basketball. It is hoped that a system such as this will help to give children the courage to become
involved in an ‘out of school’ activity, and at the same time create links within LWPS families.
COMPETITON BASKETBALL DETAILS:
 Summer Season Start: Beginning of Term 4 (approx)
 Age Groups – Miniball (Under 7s & 8s), Under 9s, 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s
 1 x Game per week at a local basketball stadium – i.e. Lilydale Stadium, Kilsyth Stadium, Oxley Stadium.
 Girls Games – Tuesday or Wednesday after school. Boys – Saturday
 1 x Training Session per week at a local venue (after school)
 For information, including costs that would be associated with your child’s involvement, visit the Saints
web site at http://www.sebcsaints.com.au. The sections of particular interest to you are - SHOP and
FAQS.
 The club also often runs ‘come and try basketball’ programs, at a very reasonable price. Once again,
refer to the website for details.
HOW THE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM WILL WORK:
STEP 1.
If you are keen for your child to participate, you will return the slip on the opposite side to this page, to me
by MONDAY 29th JULY.
STEP 2.
Scenario A
If there are enough Lilydale West children, of the same age group and gender, to create a team, (i.e. 8
children) I will pass on the information you have provided on the return slip, to the club, who will then get
in contact with you at a later date. All going to plan, this group of LWPS children will play their first season
together. After the first season, the children will then be graded, as is the case for all other children who
play for the club. This may lead to the team not continuing together as a whole group. This is a very
important aspect of the Partnership Program to take note of.
Scenario B
If the situation arises where there are not enough children to create a team, I will still pass on your details
to the club, which will hopefully lead to an opportunity for your child to be part of a team with other
children, and potentially a small number of other LWPS children. If this scenario arises, I encourage you to
stick with it and give it a go!
If you have any questions about the program, please don’t hesitate to contact me. E-mail is a great way to
do this – [email protected]. If it is a question that is related to the SEBC Basketball Club,
refer to their website - http://www.sebcsaints.com.au
