Tacklinghomelessnessrequiresastrongfocuson
interveningearlytopreventhomelessness,and
ensuringarangeofflexibleandresponsiveservices
areavailabletobreakthehomelessnesscycle.It
isrecognisedthattheresponsetohomelessness
alsorequiresanintegratedservicesystemfromall
sectorsofthecommunity.
ThisGuidetoAssistingHomelessPeopleinPublic
Placeshasbeenadaptedwithpermissionfrom
theNSW Government Protocol for Homeless
People in Public Placestoassistgovernmentand
non-governmentagenciesthathavecontactwith
homelesspeople.UseoftheGuidewillhelpensure
thathomelesspeoplearetreatedrespectfully
andappropriately,andareabletorequestand
receivetheservicestheyneed.TheGuideaimsto
assistserviceproviderswiththeirinteractionswith
homelesspeopleinpublicplacesandserveasan
