April 20, 2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dallas Joint Counter-Terrorism Awareness Workshop Series to be held April 21 & 22 The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management, Dallas Police Department, Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, and the Interagency Planning Group (IPG), consisting of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), will conduct the Dallas Joint Counterterrorism Awareness Workshop on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Dallas City Hall Conference Center Auditorium at 1500 Marilla, Suite L1FN, Dallas, Texas 75201. This two-day workshop provides a forum for discussing and analyzing the city, county, state, and federal capabilities to respond to a complex attack involving coordinated terrorist assaults against multiple targets in the Dallas metropolitan area. Participants at the locally focused workshop will include city, county, region, state, and federal representatives from police, fire, emergency medical services, fusion center, emergency management, public affairs, and medical communities, as well as other stakeholders from the private sector in order to: Review existing preparedness, response and interdiction plans, policies, and procedures related to a complex terrorist attack; Identify federal, state, and local resources—including grants, training, exercises, and technical assistance— available to address potential gaps in capabilities; Coordinate situational awareness, recognize best practices, and encourage information sharing among all stakeholders in the event of a complex terrorist attack; Examine healthcare system and clinical challenges unique to a complex terrorist attack Examine the roles of the community and bystanders in a complex terrorist attack; Discuss a framework for immediate medical management of wounded in, or near, an attack site; and Identify and share best practices and lessons learned from case studies in medical preparedness. Tactical and medical considerations are integrated into both days of the workshop. Additional participants include hospital/medical personnel and planners, community groups (associations, faith-based organizations, school and neighborhood groups, and sports teams). Local media are invited to attend opening ceremonies for the workshop from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday April 21. Featured speakers will include Mayor Michael S. Rawlings, Police Chief, David O. Brown, FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Thomas M. Class and FEMA Region VI Regional Administrator Tony Robinson.
