The Committee approved. Dr. Sligh introduced Dr. Richard Westberry to the committee as the new Associate Dean of Workforce Programs. 1 Motion: Melinda Simmons/Rebecca Nathanson Action: Minutes approved Tabled Courses Old Business Jay Clark/Jeffery Stephens #7 #11 Credit Course Addition ANT 2000 Introduction to Anthropology Credit Course Addition HUM 2020 Introduction to Humanities Dr. Sligh requested a motion to reconsider ANT 2000/Introduction to Anthropology and HUM 2020/Introduction to Humanities together. These Courses were presented to the committee at the October 15 meeting, but was tabled because there were no lab fee forms attached. The forms were prepared and attached and are brought back in front of the committee for approval. 2 Action: approved. New Business 3.11 # 30 Credit by Exam CGS 1100 Business Computer Application Dr. Sligh requested that the Credit by exam item 3.11 # 30 be considered first so that the originator and instructor could leave in a timely manner in order to make it to her class. The committee approved. Motion: Richard Westbury/Rick Palmer Action: Approved For this particular course, Deb Godwin explained that the student would pay their money to take the exam. They will be issued a preparatory study guide so that they can prepare for the test. Each department will decide whether they want to proctor the exam or have the Learning Center do so. Students can only take the test once. The Credit by exam packet should include the Syllabus, SLOs, study guides, Business computer applications forms, business computer applications projects instructions questions. Deb Godwin explained that this credit by exam process allows students to take the credit by exam in order to graduate and also to get into the nursing program if so desired. The exams are proctored by the learning center. 3.1 # 20 Credit Course Addition THE 1000 Theatre Appreciation Tabled for clarification as to whether this course should be a Gordon rule course. 3.2 # 21 Credit Program Addition Business Specialist Certificate 3.3 # 22 Credit Program Addition Business Operations Certificate 3.4 # 23 Credit Program Addition Business Management Certificate Dr Sligh requested a Motion to approve the Credit program additions for Business Specialist 3 Motion: Melinda Simmons/Thom Kieft Action: Approved Certificate, Business Operations Certificate and Business Management Certificate together. Karen Hogans explained that the three courses are designed to flow into each other. The motivation was to give students incentives to complete the certificates which would eventually lead to an AS degree. If students decide not to go forward into the next program, they can utilize their certificates once completed. The committee approved all three. 3.5 # 24 Credit Program Modification EDT Associates in Applied Science Degree (290) 3.6 # 25 Credit Program Modification EDT Advanced Certificate (391) Motion: Thom Kieft/Dr. Richard Westberry Action: Approved Dr. Sligh requested a motion to group the two credit programs, EDT Associates in Applied Science Degree and EDT Advanced Certificate together. EDT Associates in Applied Science Degree is being modified to remove CGS 1530 and replace it with CGS 1100. EDT Advanced Certificate is being modified to remove CGS 1530 and replace it with CGS 1100. The committee approved these modifications. 3.7 # 26 Credit Program Modification Business Administration –AS Degree Karen Hogans explained that the modification of this program is to require MNA 1100, Human Relations in Business and Industry as a core course and make ENT 1000 an elective. MNA 1100 is the only course in the program that covers FLDOE Curriculum Framework for human resources. At least 10 of our sister institutions require a human relations course in their Business Administration Program. The committee approved these modification. 3.8 # 27 Credit Course Deletion CGS 1530 Microcomputer Applications 3.9 # 28 Credit Course Deletion OST 1854 Microsoft Office-Introduction Dr. Sligh requested a motion to consider CGS 1530 Microcomputer Applications and OST 1854 Microsoft Office-Introduction together. CGS 1530 is a non-transferrable course and has been replaced by the transferrable credit course, CGS 1100 Business Computer Applications. Due to tis replacement, CGS 1530 will no longer be offered and needs to be deleted from catalog. OST 1854 is no longer offered. It was replaced by CGS 1100 Business Computer Applications. 3.10 # 29 Credit Course Deletion OST 1940 Office Management Practicum Motion: Dr. Richard Westberry/Melinda Simmons Action: Approved Motion: Jay Clark/Dr. Richard Westberry This course is no longer offered. It was previously in the now-deleted AAS-Office Administration Degree. This course has been replaced by OST 2501, Office Management in the new AS-Office Administration Degree. Action: Approved Jane Scott briefed the committee on the importance of the credit by exam process. Next committee meeting will be 12/17/2014 in SSB 205 at 2:00p.m. 5
