2014-15 School Plan & Results
Our school plan for this past year included the following goals:
1. Well-Being-To build and improve relationships within our community
2. Intellectual Engagement-Increase student independence, intrinsic motivation, and responsibility for
actions and learning.
3. Students increased understanding of numeracy and literacy outcomes.
Results
1.
2.
TTFM showed strong results for positive relationships compared to the National norm. Incident reports
were down and student voice was utilized through class meetings.
We have worked hard this year engaging our students and our Grade 7 students proved to be 100%
engaged this year. We will
continue to monitor but
with these results, we
predict the “Flow” of
students will continue to
increase.
3.
Of the data collected this year, one area of concentration is the percent of students meeting grade
level expectations in literacy/numeracy. We are confident with the
increase of students “In the Flow” our expectations of growth will
continue. Initial analysis of our reading levels for the 2014-15 school year
has been positive. Our school data regarding students reading at or
above grade level is 72%. The previous year results indicated 63% were
reading at or above grade level.
For the 2015-16 school year we will continue with these three priorities
2014-15 Successes and Challenges
Although we showed nearly a 10% gain in our reading results this year, Riverton Early Middle School will continue
to meet this challenge through using Innovative Practice, Inquiry, Collaboration, Strength-based Practice and
Engaging Parent and Community.
New Pedagogies for Deep Learning is global partnership in which we wanted to celebrate our success this year.
Riverton Early Middle School is one of the partners in this global journey. For
us we wanted to explore learning using technology to drive deeper learning
and comprehension using a driving question and interests of our students. It is
important to note: “Transitioning from traditional teaching methods to a
learning environment in which the teacher supports learning as the “guide on
the side” and students become the drivers of their own learning requires a huge
shift in thinking a practice for students, parents, teachers and administrators.”
It is the argument that without this transition, students will not develop the core
competencies of the 21st Century Learner.
There a six learning progressions that are targeted for the 21 st Century Learner and technology leverages this
learning. They are Character (traits of grit, tenacity, perserverance, and resiliency), Citizenship (worldview with a
genuine interest to solve complex real-world problems), Collaboration (learning from and contributing to the
learning of others), Communication (variety of styles), Creativity (pursue novel ideas and turn them into action) and
Critical Thinking (evaluating information and applying it in the real world).
Goals of New Pedagogies
•To engage all students to learn both within and outside the classroom –not just the students who are already
highly motivated to learn
•To have high expectations for all students
•To build student confidence through personal feedback and encouragement
•To foster a new kind of learning that is engaging, connected to real life and prepares young people for the world
beyond school
