The Big Story A Gospel Presentation for SOLD: The Human Trafficking Experience Adapted from “The Big Story” by James Choung http://www.jameschoung.net/2007/09/17/the-big-story/ After experiencing some of the darkest evil in the world, it is natural to respond, “it’s not supposed to be like this.” This world is broken (draw second circle with squiggles around the outer circle). We all have some kind of longing to see a changed and better world. Our hunger points to food, and our thirst points to water, so it makes sense that our deep desire for a perfect world points to something better. So it makes sense when we read in the Bible that the world actually was created perfect. We were designed for good (write). The world was perfect (draw outer circle), our relationships with each other were perfect (draw people), and our relationship with God was perfect (draw inner circle). But the Bible also tells us why the world is in the broken state that it is: we were damaged by evil (write). We decided that we wanted to run the show. When we started placing ourselves over God and the needs of others (draw arrows pointing into the center), we destroyed our relationships with God (squiggle inner circle), with others (squiggle between), and damaged the world (squiggle around the outer circle again). The good news is that 2000 years ago, God came into the world as Jesus to do something about it (draw arrow, world squiggled). He told people about the reign of God, where everything in that perfect world we dream about actually happens. More than that, he died on the cross (draw cross) and all the evil and damaged died with him. The retribution for our own evil was paid for by his death. He came back to life to show that he has conquered the death and destruction we hate, and he is calling all people to repent from running their own lives (draw people at the foot of the cross) and to let him reign so that we can be restored for better (write). Jesus has started a revolution (draw world squiggled, inner circle, cross), and he is asking us join him: to be healed (draw people around inner circle), to heal each other, and to go out to heal the world (draw arrows from inner to outer circle). We are sent together to heal (write) by sharing the message of the healing that Jesus brought. God heals us and works through us so that we can become the kind of good that we want to see in the world. You may want to go straight from here (damaged by evil) to here (sent to heal) without Jesus. But the damage done by evil is actually within us, too (squiggle inside people). As we enter the healing process with Jesus, we can go out (draw lines) and help him heal the world. We need the infinite resources that God provides (draw arrows) to face the infinite problems in the world. There is no solution without Jesus. Do you see yourself in one of these circles? Do you see the world's problems and your own but feel helpless to do anything about them? Step into the reign of God and let Jesus heal you and send you out. Are you in the process of being healed, but you just got stuck in this circle (third circle)? Recognize that God is calling you to look beyond yourself and join his revolution to change the world. Pray about it and let God show you where he wants to use you. For those who want to step into the reign of God: Pray with them. If they want guidance, you can help them with the words but otherwise let them pray from their heart. Get their name and contact information and let them know that someone will follow up with them to help them get started on this journey. Leave your name and the names and info of any people you led to Christ with the point person on duty at the end of your shift. If you would like to be the one to follow up, please note that as well.
