Heartware Network HWN Home Team Parade & Festival Factsheet for Leaders and Volunteers Information is correct as at 20 January 2017 General Information This year, Home Team will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary with parade & festival. This will be held within the Singapore Indoor Stadium and the Sports Hub’s precinct. The aim is to celebrate the significant milestone in Home Team’s history, appreciate the service of their national servicemen and to promote a safe and secure Singapore. Since her inception in 2000, Heartware Network has been supporting various national projects by training and managing a group of youth volunteers for hospitality management. In 2017, Heartware Network is privileged to work alongside the Home Team in the endeavor to celebrate their 20th Anniversary as well as promote SG Secure. We are looking for volunteers to join us in the hospitality management team. Roles include guides and ushers in the festival. We will be recruiting, training and developing youths into leaders of tomorrow through an exciting experience serving the community at a national event. Objectives We hope to: 1. Inspire youths to be community champions through active citizenry, 2. Equip youth volunteers with interpersonal, leadership and people management skills in order to make a difference and impact in the community effectively. 3. Provide a platform for youths to gain ownership of Singapore’s Home Team and to play their part to promote a safe a secure Singapore. Pre-requisites 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Be aged between 15 and 35 years old (i.e. born between 1982 and 2002). Be able to commit for all training sessions and parades (refer to schedule). Possess problem-solving abilities and good interpersonal skills. Be comfortable with working with people from various age groups and backgrounds. Have the ability to handle stress and work well under pressure. Be able to work well both independently and in a team. Is energetic, confident and fun-loving. Be willing to take up challenges. *Note: Application from non-Singaporeans/PR will be assessed case-by-case, and subject to security clearance. Additional Pre-Requisites for Leaders: 1. Aged between 17 and 35 years (i.e. born between the year 1982 and 2000). 2. Is willing to serve, has initiative and is able to lead by example. Benefit from the series of service-learning training provided and learn to manage and interact with the public professionally. 2. Develop public speaking, interpersonal and leadership skills. 3. Contribute a minimum of 40 hours. 7. Have fun! Job Scope 1. General Volunteers Serve as Guides during the Festival at Sports Hub Precinct. - To engage & excite public, - Provide information and direction - Control queues to zones. Serve as Ushers in the Show Parade in Singapore’s Indoor Stadium - Assist spectators with locating their seats - Assist in Bag Checks - Assist to motivate the crowd. - Provide assistance to special needs audience if needed 2. Volunteer Leaders (17 years old and above) Take on additional responsibilities on top of their general duties: Lead and motivate the group of volunteers assigned to them. Handle welfare and administrative matters relating to the group. Collate volunteers’ attendance. Attend additional meetings conducted by the YPC and/or Sector Overall I/Cs (SOIC). Plan and participate in discussion to execute deployment plan. Give feedback and raise any issues faced (resolved or unresolved) to relevant SOICs. 3. Logistics Volunteers Assist the YPC to provide logistics support during training and parades. Manage the welfare of volunteers. Distribute collaterals (uniforms, passes, etc.) to volunteers. 4. Media Volunteers Proficient in videography or photography. Familiar with video production software and processes. Provide video and photo coverage during the training and parades. Conduct video interviews with volunteers and spectators. Work as a team to create a volunteer commemorative video clip. *Applicants will need to send in a recent portfolio along with their application. General Volunteers: 24th March 2017, Friday. Join the event at “HWN Home Team Parade & Festival” as a “General Volunteer”, “Volunteer Leader”, “Media Volunteer” or “Logistics Volunteer” Within 5 working days of your sign-up, the Youth Planning Committee (YPC®) will contact all shortlisted volunteers to arrange for an interview at Heartware Network Office. 4. If you have successfully signed up for the event on Youthbank®, you will receive a call for arrangement of interview from our staff - in - charge, followed by an email within 5 working days of your sign - up. Only after all the steps above are accomplished, then, would you will be considered successfully signed up for the programme. 2) What is the commitment level like? You will need to attend ALL trainings, festivals/ parades. Volunteers who do not meet the attendance criteria or adhere by the code of conduct may be released. 3) What if I can’t make it for the training/ deployment stated in the factsheet? If you are unable to attend any of the training or parades/ festivals stated in the factsheet, please inform the interviewers during the interview. Please note that you will need to submit proof of your absence (e.g. MC) to be officially excused from the training session/ show. 4) What if I can’t continue the volunteering event and have to withdraw due to other commitments (e.g. internship, overseas exchange programme)? We expect volunteers to take ownership of their responsibilities. In this scenario, it means communicating to the staff –in –charge on your intention to withdraw and ensuring a proper handover of your responsibilities. 5) How do I get my VIA letter/ hours/ points? All VIA hours will be uploaded onto YouthBank® after the programme / event has ended which is why it is important that you sign up for the programme / event online. You may wish to download the VIA letter from YouthBank® for verification as required by your school. Volunteers have to fulfil the attendance criteria (Refer to FAQ Qn 2) in order to receive VIA hours. Please note that it is COMPULSORY to fill in the feedback/testimonies on YouthBank® before your VIA hours can be awarded to you. ** Supporting documents (e.sg. MC / any relevant documents) MUST BE provided for any missed volunteering sessions and Heartware Network will review each reason given accordingly. As shared in FAQ (5), Heartware Network will review your supporting documents. This does not mean that you will get your VIA Letter/ Hours/ Points.
