TECHNICAL RANGE Flushmaster Flush Valves, Demand & Metering Taps Flushmaster Flush Valves WATER-SAVING TOILET FLUSH MECHANISMS Cobra Flush Valves The flush valves allow for adjustable water delivery and non-hold open function. These can be preset to deliver only enough water to clean the urinal or toilet and no more. They also cannot be left in the open position, and therefore have to be re-activated for another flush. Cobra Dual Flush Toilets The dual flush toilets are fitted with a dual flush activation that will dispense either a 3 litre or 6 litre flush. Standard Flushmaster Flush Valves TOILET FLUSH VALVE Description: Exposed type with wall plate, inlet control stop. Code: FM1.000 FM1.000, STANDARD MANUAL FLUSHMASTER FLUSH VALVE BASIC INSTALLATION GUIDE Please take note that the following fixtures/ installations should be completed before installing the flushmaster flush valve: Water closet (toilet) or Urinal Drain line Waste pipes Water supply line The water supply line should be ideally installed in a brick wall (110mm or 230mm) and the piping should be “chased” into the wall. The water supply line should then be plastered/ tiled closed. This will prevent unnecessary movement of the flushmaster flush valve when operated. FM1.000, STANDARD MANUAL FLUSHMASTER FLUSH VALVE BASIC INSTALLATION GUIDE IMPORTANT NOTE: All plumbing is to be installed according to the applicable regulations, rules, codes and procedures. Water supply lines and piping must be sized to provide the adequate volume of water for every flush cycle (60l/ min). Take note of the minimum required operating pressure (30 - 300kPa) of the device (a pressure pump may be installed to increase the water supply pressure to the minimum required/ desired levels). Take care not to exceed the maximum operating pressure (600kPa) for the specific device (a PRV - pressure reducing valve) can or should be installed on the main water supply line to balance the water pressure. Flush all water line prior to installation to clear it of any potential debris. Do not use any “toothed tools” to install or service the flushmaster flush valve - this will result in INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (only for the Flushmaster flush valve): 1) Install the control stop assembly (BC-FM8.60) - A - and wall flange. PFT-tape or “hemp” should be used on the male threads to create a leak-free coupling. 2) Prior to inserting the flushmaster flush valve “tailpiece” - B - (the end which inserts into the control stop assembly), take note that the “o-ring” seal - C - is located in the “o-ring seal groove” (see the end of the “tailpiece”) and that the “lock nut” - D - and “double cap seal” - Eare located and positioned as shown. 3) Insert the flushmaster flush valve “tailpiece” into the control stop assembly and hand-tighten the lock nut to the stop control assembly. Plumb the entire unit now. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: a. Flushpipe (FMT1.1) to connect the flushmaster flush valve to the toilet - back entry. b. Rubber pan connector (C-FMV8.3) to enable a leak free/ odour free connection between the flushpipe and the water closet (toilet). c. Flushpipe (FMT1.2) to connect the flushmaster flush valve to the water closet (toilet) - top entry. Ensure that the rubber pan connector fits tightly and insert it fully to establish a proper seal. 6) Before the water supply is turned on, ensure all stop valves to the flushmaster flush valve are closed off properly. The stop valves can be opened/ closed/ adjusted using the adjustment screw (at the centre of the control stop assembly) - G. If for any reason the control stop valve needs to be removed completely, ensure that the water supply is turned off completely. FM1.000, STANDARD MANUAL FLUSHMASTER FLUSH VALVE BASIC INSTALLATION GUIDE For new installations and servicing of the cartridge: a. Close off the water supply. b. Lift out the piston valve/ cartridge. c. Re-fit the flushmaster flush valve top cover - open the water supply gradually to flush out potential debris and impurities in the water supply. Flushmaster Junior Toilet Flush Valves are suitable for operation with flow pressures ranging from 150-500kPa (back-entry WC) and 200-500kPa (top-entry WC). 2. Flushmaster Junior Urinal Flush Valves are suitable for operation with flow pressures ranging from 30-300kPa (inlet). 3. The water supply system should be designed so as to yield a minimum flow-rate at each valve. The minimum flow-rate requirement for a Flushmaster toilet flush valve: 105l/ min. The minimum flow-rate required for a Flushmaster urinal flush valve: varies (depending on the type of urinal used). 4. Valves must be accessible for maintenance/ servicing and a suggested minimum clearance of 60mm is required above the unit for this purpose. 5. The outlet of the flush valve must face vertically downwards. 6. Please consult the table below: MIN STATIC PRESSURE @ WATERMETER kPa 300 MAX LENGTH OF PIPE (M) BETWEEN FLUSH VALVE AND WATERMAIN 22mm Pipe 3 350 9 400 12 450 14 500 18 550 22 600 29 650 34 700 41 15mm Ø Pipe or 15mm Ø Watermeter must not be used for toilet flush valves. Friction loss across a 22mm Ø Watermeter has been taken into account (see table above). Maximum distance as indicated may be increased by 25%, if PVC/ HDPE pipe is used. The table is illustrative of single storey domestic applications only and for any other installations, you should consult your Plumber or suitably qualified person to do so. VALVE SETTINGS: 1. The flow-rate, cycle time and flow pressure in flush valves can be adjusted at the ball-o-stop screwdriver slot (indicated by arrow on the line drawing on the left). 2. The ball-o-stop setting should be such that there is no splashing whilst ensuring an adequate flush to clear the pan/ urinal. 3. Flush time can be adjusted by loosening the grub screw under the pushbutton and rotating the knulled button surround 180˚ (indicated by black dot on the line drawing on the left). JUNIOR FLUSHMASTER FLUSH VALVES - BASIC INSTALLATION GUIDE MAINTENANCE OF THE FLUSH VALVE When to clean the Flush Valve: Flush valve not closing due to foreign matter between the seat pipe and the diaphragm or under the relief valve; The by-pass assembly is blocked. Removal of the Valve Components: Close the ball-o-stop or stop cock; Unscrew the cover; Remove the piston; To dismantle the piston, unscrew the relief valve top screw and remove the relief valve and relief valve washer. Cleaning Procedure: Gently clean the top of the seat pipe, the underside of the diaphragm, the relief valve washer and the relief valve seat within the piston plate; The by-pass assembly and if blocked can be cleaned with a needle. Checking Valve Performance: When operating the Flushmaster Junior Toilet Flush Valve, the valve yields ±6.5l/ flush cycle and the Flushmaster Junior Urinal Flush valve yields ±1.8l/ flush cycle; The period of flow for urinal flush valves should ideally range 5-16 sec and for the toilet flush valve 1-6 sec; The flush valve has FAULT FINDER PROBLEM CAUSE ACTION TO BE TAKEN Poor flow Excessive flush time Valve not shutting off Dirt in by-pass, valve seat or relief valve seat Follow cleaning instructions Poor/ excessive flow of water Flush time too long/ short Incorrect ball-o-stop setting Adjust ball-o-stop Excessive flush time and/ or poor flow Valve not closing off Non hold-open feature not working Inadequate supply pressure Consult table 1 or your Plumber or any suitable qualified person able to calculate system pressures and water supply Flush time too short/ long Faulty by-pass By-pass blocked Clean/ replace by-pass Water hammer Air in the system Fit air release valve Valve leaking into pan Diaphragm/ relief valve washer damage Insert new piston assembly Valve leaking at air inlet point Back pressure from pan due to blockage Clean pan inlet ports Cobra Water - Saving Demand and Metering Taps Cobra Demand Taps The demand taps allow water to flow only as long as the button is held down. They cannot be left running. This feature makes demand taps the ideal choice for public facilities. Only one hand can be washed at a time. Cobra Metering Taps The metering taps allow an adjustable water delivery time from 1 second minimum. They can be preset to deliver the minimum amount of water required. Water is dispensed only after the push button has been released. The unit can not be jammed open, both hands can be washed at the same time.
