New date for
House vote
on Zuma
‘JZ WILL
LEAVE IN
DECEMBER’
THE date for the motion of no
confidence in President Jacob Zuma
has been moved to 8 August,
parliament
announced yesterday.
According to a statement, the
Speaker of the National Assembly
decided to revise the date after
consultation with political parties
and top leaders.
The date was previously set for 3
August.
The statement read: “There was
an oversight during the initial
consultation and determination of
the originally announced date,
which overlooked the fact that a
Cabinet lekgotla had already been
set for that week.
“The deadline for political parties
to submit their views regarding
their preferred means of voting on
this particular motion remains 14
July – that is, whether by a secret
or open ballot.”
Parliament said the Speaker will
make her decision about the voting
procedure before 8 August.
Opposition parties have been
pushing for a secret ballot, hoping
to provide ANC MPs with the
security to vote against Zuma.

IF THE ANC doesn’t pull itself together, it will lose power.
This is according to the chairman of the
party’s subcommittee on organisational
renewal, Fikile Mbalula.
Zuma has repeatedly said the ANC will
rule until Jesus comes again. But Mbalula has warned that the party has been
weakened by what he called “wedge-drivers”.
“Many people nowadays use mainstream media outlets to announce their
political ambitions in the movement,” he
said.
Mbalula said the party needed to adjust
its organisational machinery to respond
to the new demands.
He said the nomination and election
processes must be reviewed to allow for
open contests. This would allow branches to interview nominated candidates
who can then campaign openly. Mbalula
said it was time for the party to acknowledge that factionalism existed.
“Nothing is being swept under the carpet. We are being robust. We are discussing these issues. There are no holy cows.”
He said this included state capture and
the Guptas’ involvement.
Regarding the motion of no confidence,
Mbalula said the party has decided Zuma
would not be recalled.
He said ANC MPs who vote against the
party are “suicide bombers”.
“Those who undermine the ANC will
be dealt with. They are committing political suicide.
“The president will leave the ANC in
December,” he said.
In his report, Mbalula also proposed
the establishment of a revolutionary
council, led by members who have
retired from contesting any leadership
positions.

TUMELO takes care of the spiritual side of things as a good sangoma should, but he also takes care

Daily Sun spotted Hlalabamzonda next to the road, doing his

Coligny, North West lives in the
Uptown Section of Bekkersdal,
west of Joburg.
“My ancestors used to walk
long distances in the villages and
they looked strong and lived long.
“I sometimes have dreams of
playing tennis with them.”
He said when he speaks to his
ancestors in a private corner
where he burns imphepho, a
strong urge to exercise comes
over him.
“I drink muthi for different reasons but morning exercise is key
to staying cool and calm. It
doesn’t require a special place
like a hall. I just do it next to the
road.”
He said morning walks and
breathing a lot of oxygen keeps
him alert and helps to develop his
self-confidence and mental stability. Tumelo said he sometimes
heals people who are physically
strong who have been cursed by
evil spirits.
“That requires me to have balance, strength and strong shoulders and arms.
“I don’t have any physical problems. I don’t smoke or drink. I
used to weigh 75kg but now I’m
down to 67kg and I feel strong.”

Hundreds of children made

But it ended in tragedy when

The shocking incident that

the Eyethu Night Club in Port

AN APPLICATION to have two
of the men accused of conspiring
to kill Jayde Panayiotou acquitted was dismissed by the Port
Elizabeth High Court on Friday.
Advocate Peter Daubermann,
the lawyer representing Sinethemba Nenembe and Zolani Sibeko, brought an application in
terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act for his clients to be discharged due to a
weak state case.
But prosecutor Marius Stander
argued there was in fact a strong
case against the two. He said
they needed to explain why they
had been in constant communication with the alleged hitman,
Sizwezakhe Vumazonke, who
died before the trial began.
Judge Dayalin Chetty ruled
that the application brought by
Daubermann was dismissed, and
postponed the matter to 26 September for the defence to present

Shock as coffin shoots into
grave and smashes open
By STEPHENS MOLOBI and SIFISO JIMTA
RELATIVES and friends gathered in
grief last Saturday to lay their beloved Liona Fos to rest.
Everything was ready as the coffin rested on the device that would
slowly lower it into its final resting
place.
Only it didn’t go as planned!
Next moment the machine failed,
causing the coffin to shoot into the
grave.
When the dust finally settled, the
family looked in horror as the body
lay among what was left of the coffin!
Liona’s daughter, Gloria Fos (25),
said: “The funeral was supposed to
go smoothly.
“My mother did not deserve to be
sent off like that.”
She said the coffin hit the ground
and broke into pieces. The body was
surrounded by pieces of shattered
wood.

takers picking up the body and putting it in another coffin.
Tensions rose as the family wanted to clean the body of dust before it
was put into a new coffin.
The family said the undertaker
had since sent an apology but that it
was not enough.
Judy Norton, founder and owner
of Norton Funeral Services, said she
personally apologised to the family
after the incident.
“We were deeply shocked.”
The cost of a funeral can
give you sleepless nights.
“There were also shootings on
Human Rights Day at Langa and
Gugulethu in the Western Cape.”
He said the taxi bosses should
train drivers in customer care.
“Some drivers don’t know how
to handle commuters.”
Macebo said his role as Ding
Ding taught him how hard it is
to stop taxi violence.
“It’s an endless war. When are
we going to fix this and achieve
unity in our country?” he asked.
“On top of that, many taxis are
unsafe and not roadworthy.”
He said he will never become
part of the taxi business – he will
remain an actor.
“A good actor makes viewers
believe in him and the characters he portrays,” said Macebo,
who also appeared in Heist as
Flash.
He can be seen on Mzansi Magic’s Lokshin Bioskop in Ezebiweyo and Heavenly Riches.
She said company staff had
checked the equipment before the
burial.
“Everything was working well.”
Norton said following the incident
an upgraded coffin was sent to the
family. “We are willing to talk to
them to see if there is any other
thing we can help with. We are all
very sad about what happened.”
The family has since lodged a
complaint with the Funeral Industry

Witwatersrand Association spokesman George Maphalala said the
