Who*s Who in Romans: Phoebe Romans 16:1-2

Who’s Who in Romans:
Phoebe
Romans 16:1-2
Phoebe
Romans 16:1–2 I commend to you our
sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the
church which is at Cenchrea; that you
receive her in the Lord in a manner
worthy of the saints, and that you help
her in whatever matter she may have
need of you; for she herself has also been
a helper of many, and of myself as well.
Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the
righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until
full day.
Commendable
• She believes as we do.
• She is a fine person.
• She is to be trusted.
2 Corinthians 3:1 ...do we need, as
some, letters of commendation to you
or from you?
a Sister
“in the Lord”
a Servant
Philippians 2:3–4 Do nothing from
selfish ambition or conceit, but in
humility count others more significant
than yourselves. Let each of you look
not only to his own interests, but also
to the interests of others.
a Helper
Receive her in a manner
worthy of the saints.
Help her in whatever matter
she may have need of you.
Philippians 4:16, 19 “You sent me aid
again and again when I was in need …
And my God will meet all your needs”
Galatians 6:6–7 Nevertheless, the one
who receives instruction in the word
should share all good things with their
instructor. Do not be deceived:
God cannot be mocked. A man reaps
what he sows.
2 Timothy 1:16–18 May the Lord show
special kindness to Onesiphorus and all
his family because he often visited and
encouraged me. He was never ashamed of
me because I was in chains. When he
came to Rome, he searched everywhere
until he found me.
May the Lord show him special
kindness on the day of Christ’s return.
And you know very well how helpful
he was in Ephesus.
Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever
you would like them to do to you. This
is the essence of all that is taught in the
law and the prophets.”
