ComUUnicator Bringing you the news of the United Unitarian Universalist Congregation Waukesha, Wisconsin February 2016 OFFICE HOURS Tuesday & Friday 9am – 3pm 506 N. Washington Avenue Waukesha, WI 53188 262-544-1050 www.UnitedUUC.org MINISTER’S HOURS Tuesday 10am-12pm Friday 10am – 2:00 pm United Worship Services Every Sunday at 10:30 AM February 7 , 2016 “ Wanting to Win" Speaker: Rev. Schuyler Vogel Most of us want to win. We want to succeed, we want to be praised. But despite this, we all lose sometimes. Most of us learned from an early age that we weren't good at everything, and we've struggled with the difference between what we want to be and what we are. On this Super Bowl Sunday, a celebration of competition and winning, we'll explore how we losers can live purposefully and joyfully anyways. February 14, 2016 Valentine’s Multigenerational Service Speakers: Rev. Schuyler Vogel and Darlyn Buelow Today, Valentine's Day, is multigenerational service where we will explore themes of love and partnership. February 21, 2016 "Your Other Brain: The Mysterious Wisdom of the Subconscious Mind” Guest Speaker: Philip Chard The vast majority of mental processes occur outside our conscious awareness. This "other brain" is an extensive repository of life experiences, spiritual awakenings, creative capacities, dreams and wisdom. We will examine ways to enlist the subconscious brain as a partner in addressing life's challenges, developing greater self-awareness, making important decisions, and fostering spiritual growth. February 28, 2016 “Spiritual Longing” Speaker: Rev. Schuyler Vogel Faith exists for a reason. There is something inside us that longs of meaning, connection and progress. It’s what brings us together each week and calls us to support this congregation. As we begin our stewardship campaign, we remember why our community matters and how it changes the lives of those in it and around it. Rev. The Buddhist Study group meets twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 6:30-8:00pm We share a reading aloud during each meeting, and we share our thoughts and questions related to the book we agree to read outside of the meetings. We take an informal approach to study and learn through one another’s perspectives. We welcome anyone who has an interest, whether they have chosen to read along or just come to converse. We include a seated meditation, typically silent but on occasion instead a guided meditation or a walking meditation. We welcome those who know they want to meditate and study with a community, and equally welcome those who don’t know for sure if they will be able to commit to that, or who know they don’t want to actually become Buddhist, but are curious just the same. It is with joy that we are able to say we can share options with anyone who wants to learn more about their own capacities for openness, peace and compassion, through either the existing Mukwonago-based Buddhist group or the newly forming Zen group. There are no barriers to trying both. If you would like to have occasional email updates regarding the group, contact the United UUC office at [email protected] to add your name to the uubuddha list. Those with questions can contact Patti Kies at [email protected] An invitation from our UU Neighbor Come and join us here at the LCUUC, in classroom #1 on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30pm, January 27ththrough March 30th 2016, to compare the theories of human nature as found in Confucianism, Hinduism, the Bible, Plato, Kant, Marx, Freud, Sartre, B.F.
