Key person policy It is the key person’s responsibility for ensuring that the individual needs of each of their key children are recognised and met, through regular contact, and regular discussion with parents/carers. Familiarise yourself with the initial child profile. Termly hand out interest updating forms to learn about the whole child. Introduce yourself to the parents/carers and briefly explain how the key person system works, e.g. point of contact for parent/carer, attachment formed with their child, termly. Possible lines of development written up and agreed with parent/carer at parents evening. WOW slips. The key person is to complete the EYFS grids for each area of learning through observation, knowledge and activity sheets providing evidence of achievements. Evaluate the observations. E= evidence and date, K=knowledge and date. Complete observations or activity sheets in each area of learning each half term. Complete short observations in each aol each term. Complete five-ten minute detailed narrative observations every half-term. Obtain parents/carers observation every month. The key person must monitor the child’s progress and meet their individual needs by spending time with their key child, weekly updating of folders. ¼ hour each key child. Type up Autumn and spring targets in discussion with parents/carers, include a photo and obtain parents/carers signature. Take a photo of your key person child and type up their possible lines of development prior to the summer parents evening obtain parent/carers signature. Discuss any concerns regarding your key person child with the co-ordinator and any other officer e.g. SENCO, safe guarding officer or behaviour management or if unavailable, the supervisor. Raise a behaviour record, IEP or Individual Specific Needs record with the appropriate officer if necessary. Spend as much time as possible forming an attachment, knowing there likes, dislikes and individual development needs are. Feedback to parent/carer as appropriate. Continue to observe, monitor and evaluate. Draw up action plans and review regularly.
