IsDB Group ready to play major role in reconstruction of Yemen
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 10 May, 2017 - President of the Islamic Development Bank
(IsDB) Group, Dr. Bandar Hajjar, says the Bank Group is ready to play a major role in the
reconstruction of Yemen and to manage trust funds from donor resources to support the Yemeni
government.
Dr. Hajjar made the statement while chairing the first session of a high-level meeting for
reconstruction and development of Yemen, which was held 10th of May 2017 in the capital city
of Riyadh.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he elaborated that the bank successfully administers many funds such
as Al Aqsa, Al Quds and Gaza reconstruction funds , in collaboration with governmental and
international organizations, adding that the Group will do all it can to support Yemen's various
development sectors to help overcome the crisis.
Dr. Bandar Hajjr then provided assurances of his personal commitment, and that of the IsDB
Group to continue and enhance cooperation with the Republic of Yemen, and support the Yemeni
people in the difficult circumstances experienced by the country.
The High Level meeting, also attended by the Yemeni Prime Minister H.E. Ahmed Bin Dagher, was
co-organized by the Government of Saudi Arabia and the World Bank and chaired by Honorable
Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al Jadaan.
The first working session of the meeting discussed the food crisis in Yemen due to the increasing
food shortage. Chairing the meeting, Dr. Hajjar referred to financing of food imports facilities and
emergency cash transfers as the two main components of this problem.
Representatives from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, presented two
papers on the two major issues. The meeting also focused on other aspects of the food crisis in
Yemen and the relevant solutions to it, the role of the international donors as well as providing
