Job Description JOB TITLE: Family Strengthening Intern Department/Program: Family Strengthening Reports to (name, title): Damaru Adhikari, School Liaison Type of position Full-time Part-time Temporary Hours per week 40 hours 30 hours 20 hours FLSA status Exempt Non-exempt N/A Volunteer/Intern Contractor Other: 10 hours minimum GENERAL FUNCTION To gain relevant experience in providing services to refugee populations, especially those that will help refugees become self-sufficient. Specifically, to assist in the development of a 6 week course to familiarize parents with the American school system and standards to ultimately increase graduation rates in refugee communities RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in school enrollment of school aged children Assist in the development of materials to be used in the 6 week course for parents Lead classes on the American School System for refugee parents Attend meetings and community events related to refugee/ immigrant population Research and develop a working knowledge of relevant school policies at both state and district levels. QUALIFICATIONS Education Undergraduate Student pursuing a degree with an International or Educational focus Junior or Senior Standing Skills Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Social Perceptiveness — Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Coordination — Adjust actions in relation to others' actions. Complex Problem Solving — Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
