Donab ate Po r tr a ne Tennis Club Round Robin Rules 2016/17 Round Robin explained The aim of having a round robin competition is for members to play matches with members of a similar standard and to gain confidence for league participation. Application forms for participation must be submitted by Friday 16th September. Players will be divided into groups of similar ability. Numbers participating will determine the number of groups and number of players in each group - for example there may be 10 groups of 4 players if there are 40 players. Each player will play all other players in their assigned group. After the first round is complete, ie all players have played all other players in their group, typically after a month, the groups are realigned and 2nd round of play begins and so on. This is done through promotion or relegation to another group depending on scores. The Round Robin competitions will commence in October and most likely complete in April 2017. Draw sheets will be posted in the Cabin and should be updated by players on completion of matches. Match Play 1. Each match comprises 2 sets 2. Each set is won by the person/pair that are 1st to win 6 games (no need to win by 2 games, so to win the set 6-5 is ok) 3. If the score in sets is 2–nil, the match is over 4. If the score in sets is 1 all, then a tiebreak (1st to win 7 points, must win by 2) is played to decide the winner/s of the match. Scoring System (score sheet example overleaf) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
