What is Disaster Recovery?
It is the area of security planning that deals with protecting an
organization
from
the
effects
of
significant
negative
events. Significant negative events, in this context, can include
anything that puts an organization’s operations at risk:
• Hardware Failure
• Cyberattacks
• Human Errors
• Natural Disasters
What is a Disaster Recovery Plan?
It is a business plan that describes how work can be resumed as
quickly and effectively after a disaster. It is also part of a business
continuity plan which applies to organizations that rely on IT
Infrastructure Services.
What should I add to my DR Plan?
A plan to acquire hardware
A communication plan
A list of people to be contacted if a disaster occurs
Instructions for contacting the people involved in the response to
the disaster
• Information about who owns the administration of the plan
• A checklist of required task for each recovery scenario. This will
help you review how disaster recovery is progressing.

Do you remember our First Meetup?
Omar Gonzalez presented Recovery Modes and Backups Strategy in
SQL Server.
Let’s have fun and apply what we learned during our last meetup 

plan for a DB his company use for Sales. Important points to
consider:
• DB Size: 300 GBs
• SQL Server Version: 2014 Enterprise Edition
• Transactions per Hour: ~ 200
• Data Loss: No more than 5 minutes
• DB is NOT Encrypted
• You have a local drive of 100 GBs to store backups of Sales DB
Answer below questions?
• Which Recovery Mode would you use?
• Why?
• Which Backup Strategy would you use?
• Why?
• Is there any Backup feature you consider important to save disk
space?
• Why?
• What would you set as Retention Policy?
• Why?
