Online Teaching & Learning: Course Map 1 List Course Goals (Objectives) Example As a result of successful completion of ETE 100, learners will demonstrate knowledge of the following: 1. usage of software, hardware and Web 2.0 technology tools in education; 2. vocabulary related to educational technology; 3. the National Educational Technology Standards NETS. As a result of their successful completion of ETE 100 learners will demonstrate the following skills: 4. sufficient competence to employ application software and Web 2.0 tools in the classroom; 5. usage of educational technology to create instruction; 6. usage of LiveText to create a developmental portfolio. This program emphasizes the development of dispositions that form the foundation of teaching excellence. As a result of their successful completion of ETE 100, learners will demonstrate the following dispositions: continuous development, advocacy, collaboration, and professionalism (descriptions are included in syllabus) Week or Unit 1 1 Topic Include a brief topic label Example: Role of Technology in Education Module Objectives Include a lead-in statement such as, “Upon completion of this module, students will be able to…” Module objectives: - precisely describe what learners will be able to do if they successfully complete the course - describe learner mastery using terms that are specific and observable enough to be measured - are consistent with course learning outcomes Start with an action verb and consider cognitive level. (See Iowa State’s site at http://www.celt.iastate.edu/teachin g/effective-teachingpractices/revised-bloomstaxonomy) By end of unit, students will be able to 1) use vocabulary related to educational technology, 2) apply National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), and 3) demonstrate positive dispositions to safe, legal and ethical use of educational technology. Course Goal # Associate this module objective with a course learning outcome. 1, 2, 3 Instructional Materials Indicate the instructional materials students are to study that will contribute to their achievement of the module learning objectives. Provide the purpose of the materials, how they are to be used, and how each will help students achieve the stated module learning objectives and demonstrate mastery. 1) Chapters 1-5 of textbook, web sites about educational technology. 2) NETS standards for students, teachers, and administrators. 3) 2016 Horizon Report. 4) “Delicious” and “Blogger” tutorials Learning Activities Formal and Informal Assessments & Due Date Provide interactive exercises that promote achievement of the stated learning objectives. These could be for the entire class or for groups. The purpose of the assessment is to evaluate student progress in achieving the stated module learning objectives to confirm mastery. Some common online interactive exercises are: Some examples of assessments aligned to objectives include: -Discussion forum which demonstrates analysis of concepts, -Essay which demonstrates critical thinking, -Multiple choice quiz verifies vocabulary knowledge, -Composition which shows writing skills, -Presentation in foreign language shows mastery of the language. (See Online Taxonomy & Tools handout.) 1) Students complete a survey about their experience with educational technology. 2) Read Ch. 1-5 of textbook and visit web sites to learn more about educational technology. Examine the web links to see how you might integrate technology into your classroom. 3) Review the NETS standards for students, teachers, and administrators. 4) Review the 2016 Horizon Report. 5) View “Delicious” and “Blogger” video tutorials and view model blog example.
