Dear Parents/
Guardians:
On Thursday, November 24th
first term report cards will be
going home. These carefully
crafted documents are the
result of a lot of hard work on
the part of students and
teachers alike. It is important to
remember that a report card is
a valuable tool, not only to
communicate progress to date,
but perhaps more importantly
to initiate conversations
between students, parents and
teachers about the days yet to
come. I strongly encourage
parents to take advantage of
parent –teacher interviews to
maintain open lines of
communication with the school.
This educational partnership is
a key component in the
endeavour to support student
learning and achievement. We
are all stakeholders in this
educational journey, and strong
communication is critical to our
success.

Calling in a request
for homework
Parents are asked when calling
in a request for homework for
an absent student, to please call
first thing in the morning. You
may call before the office is
open and leave a message on
voice mail or email to
[email protected]. The earlier the
teachers receive the request the
greater the chance the teachers
will be able to get things ready
on time.
AVRSB Survey on
French Immersion
Parents/guardians, students
and school community
members are invited to share
comments on French
Immersion in AVRSB through
an online survey in November.
The feedback collected through
this survey will be considered
during a review of the board’s
French Immersion policy and
administrative procedures over
the coming months.
Throughout November, any
interested individuals can go to
http://fluidsurveys.com/s/avrs
b_immersion to complete a
survey, or visit an AVRSB
school to access the survey.
Mrs. MacLean's
Activity Room
Students are encouraged to
come to Mrs. MacLean's Safe
Space Activity Room on
Mondays at lunch time. This is
a no electronics zone so most
students play games.
If you have any board games
that have been gently used
please consider donating them
to Mrs. MacLean's room. Any
games which have all of the
pieces there will be welcomed.
She is looking in particular for,
a Crokinole board; Checker
board; Chess; Risk; PicWits;
Junior Monopoly; King of
Tokyo; Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle; Sequence; Spot It;
Jenga; Clue or Clue Jr.;
Elementos (like Rock, Paper,
Scissors); Apples to Apples (Jr.
or Regular); Uno; Yahtzee;
Operation or any others that are
taking up space and your family
no longer uses.
Some of these games are
modern and others have stood
the test of time. All will be
appreciated.

Tree of Hope
Did you know that 1.2 billion
people around the world live on
less than $1.25 per day, and in
Canada, 1 in 7 people live in
poverty!
During our months of
November and December our
exploratory, The Tree of Hope
and leadership groups
encourage students to share
with children who need our
help to celebrate the holiday
season. We feel this is a great
opportunity to reflect on that
the holidays are for “sharing” as
well as “receiving”. Please bring
in gently used items or new
items to support local charities
during the months of November
and December. Donation
collections will begin on
November 15th through
December. All items can be
delivered to the main office or
placed in the library beside our
Tree 0f Hope.

halfway there.” “We can’t help
everyone- but everyone can
help someone”

The small steps we can take
make a big difference and help.
Thank you for your generous
support!
BOGO Fundraiser
We wish to thank all of the
students and parents for their
support of our annual BOGO
fundraiser. Although there may
be a slight change in the final
tally, this year we raised over
$1500.00 that will go toward
student activities.

Student Attendance
Late Arrivals
Consistent student attendance
is important. When a child is
frequently absent from school
he/she misses important
learning experiences including
specific skills and knowledge
that may be necessary for
further learning. The real
danger of frequent absences
from school is that students will
develop gaps in their learning
that will hinder future learning.
It is understood that there are
legitimate reasons why students
must miss school. When this
occurs, the school will work with
you to ensure your child does not
fall behind. Please communicate
these situations with the child’s
teacher and the school principal.
There is a similar issue with
students who are regularly late
for school. Students walking in
late for class cause a disruption
to the flow of the lesson for
both the students and the
teacher. Both groups lose focus
on instructions and the student
entering late must be given
instructions individually, a task
for which the teacher has little
or no time. The concern then is
that key concepts are not fully
realized and learning may not
be fully realized.
We clearly want to have all
students in the building by 8:25 am.
A bell signals students to make
their way to their lockers in order
to prepare for the day. Next,
students enter the homeroom that
allows for teachers to take
attendance, take lunch orders, pass
on important information, collect
necessary items, and other such
organizational tasks. At 8:30 am
another bell signals students go to
their first class of the day.
There are also many examples of
students missing significant time
when it is not necessary. Please
take school attendance seriously.
Be consistent in ensuring that your
child values the importance of a
good education. Make sure he/she
goes to bed at a reasonable time
and gets a good night’s sleep. Plan
your vacation at times that will
have no impact, or at the least a
minimal impact, on school
attendance.
School Closure due to
