held at the Capital Hilton in Washington,
DC on November 17-18, 2011. To emphasize
the rapid research developments in key areas
of physical activity, cognitive function, and
academic achievement, the program will
focus on the following major themes:
• Cognitive function
• Physical activity/exercise (sports, PE,
recess, etc.) and academic achievement
(standardized scores, grades, etc.)
• Classroom management (attention-totask, behavior, absenteeism, etc.)
• Special populations (ADHD, IDD, low
SES, minority, etc.)
• Policy (how to change the system to
increase PA)
• Effects of diet on academic performance

Categories for abstract submission include:

• Physical activity/exercise (sports, PE,
recess, etc.) and academic achievement
(standardized scores, grades, etc.)

behavior, absenteeism, etc.)
ACSM/FASEB Minority Access to Research
Careers (MARC) Travel Awards are meant to
promote the entry of underrepresented
minority students and scientists into the
mainstream of the basic science community
and to encourage the participation of young
scientists at this conference. Awards are
granted to abstract presenters and faculty
mentors paired with the students/trainees
they mentor. Application details are available
by visiting www.faseb.org.
