PROJECT TOUR SUMMARIES
Mountain Wind Power Project
Wyoming is home to one of the best wind resources in the country. Driving along the interstate, one of
the most striking sights you’ll see is a vast array of wind turbines. The Mountain Wind Power Project,
located in Fort Bridger, Wyoming, and in service since July 2008, has 67, 2.1-megawatt turbines
generating wind power equivalent to the amount of electricity used by approximately 47,800 Rocky
Mountain Power households annually. The utility is purchasing 100 percent of the facility’s output to
help serve its customers’ growing electricity needs.
Swaner Eco Center Solar Project
Swaner is a nonprofit that protects 1,200 acres of incredible open space surrounding the EcoCenter. Utah
State University’s Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter has been recognized for its role in establishing Park
City as a national “green” leader. The EcoCenter, completed in 2009, is a multi-use facility with space for
educational and community activities.
Swaner EcoCenter features a 6.6-kilowatt solar project utilizing 33 rooftop panels generating
approximately 11,000 kilowatt-hours per year. This project was made possible by more than 30,400 Utah
customers participating in Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy program - a voluntary
green power program that provides a simple and convenient way to support renewable energy equal to a
portion or all of their energy use. Through Blue Sky, residents and businesses support the development
of new renewable energy resources in the West, including community-based projects like this one.
The Swaner EcoCenter was designed to achieve the coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) platinum certification, the highest standard set by the U.S. Green Building Council. The
solar panels provide on-site electricity and are among the most cutting edge elements of the center’s
design.
