CHARLES W. HAWTHORNE
-
1872 1930
The Provincetown Art Association takes pride in presenting the
Third in a Series of Memorial Shows of the works of the late
Charles W. Hawthorne, one of the pioneer painters in Provincetown and perhaps its most famous artist. Hawthorne is not
only represented in most of the country’s leading art museums,
but through his teaching exerted a a tremendous influence on
American Art-an influence that is still alive today.
His basic concepts of painting, combined with his strong
individual statements, produced works which will continue to
be recognized as great art, we believe.
