Annex M. Changes Made to JC3IEDM Edition 3.1 Data Model in
Evolving JC3IEDM Edition 3.0.2
M.1 Overview
M.1.1 Joint Consultation, Command, and Control Information Exchange Data Model
(JC3IEDM) Edition 3.1 is the direct descendent of JC3IEDM Edition 3.0.2 that was issued in May 2009.
This annex contains a comparison of JC3IEDM Edition 3.1 of the data model with the JC3IEDM Edition
3.0.2 of the data model. The listings in this annex are intended to serve as an aid to system developers.
The listings can also be a convenient reference for readers who wish to follow the evolution of model
specifications that are known or have been known under the names Generic Hub, Land C2 Information
Exchange Model (LC2IEDM), C2 Information Exchange Model (C2IEDM) and JC3IEDM.
M.1.2 There are two major structural changes and two minor changes between JC3IEDM Edition
3.0.2 and JC3IEDM Edition 3.1.
M.1.3 The entity IED-TACTICAL-CHARACTERIZATION was added. The minor changes
were the addition of the two attributes to the ACTION-EVENT-DETAIL entity in support of the tactical
reporting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and the addition of 2 attributes to the PHYSICALADDRESS in support of the Irregular Actor reporting requirement.
M.1.4 Two new entities were added to the ACTION-COMMENT and OBJECT-ITEMCOMMENT structures to address the issue of large text fields needed in the Operational theatre.
Attributes in the existing ACTION-COMMENT and OBJECT-ITEM-COMMENT entities were renamed
to better reflect their actual usage.
M.1.5 An attribute was added to the ORGANISATION-STRUCTURE to support the ability to
represent Task organisations (Taskorg) and Order of Battle (ORBAT) requirements.
M.1.6 Two attributes were added to the PHYSICAL-ADDRESS structure to be able to further
specify a place.
M.1.7 An attribute was added to the PLAN-ORDER-HEADER-CONTENT to specify teh place
of issue of an order.
M.1.8 An attribute was added to the ORGANISATION-STRUCTURE to identify types of
organisations.
M.1.9 The other changes were editorial in nature.
