FAQ’s What is Footsteps? Footsteps is a summer school designed for students who have been, or who are currently living under the care of their local authority or are in foster care. Over the summer school you’ll get to find out what university life is really like; you’ll sleep in student halls, take part in university activities and even cook your own meals with the guidance of a former BBC MasterChef contestant! Along the way you’ll receive lots of useful advice and guidance to help you take the next steps in your education. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and try something new! Footsteps has been organised by the Essex and the Cambridge and Peterborough Collaborative Outreach Networks. When and where? Footsteps will run from Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th August 2016. You’ll be staying away from home 3 days and 2 nights, living on-site in our student accommodation at Anglia Ruskin University’s Chelmsford Campus which will give you a real taste of student life and everything that a university Campus has to offer. Transport can be arranged for you to travel to and back from the Campus. Why should you apply? Taking part in a summer school like this will look great on your CV or UCAS personal statement. You’ll get an authentic university experience and develop new skills to help you in your future. If you’re thinking of applying to university you’ll get lots of useful advice to help prepare you for the next steps. Who is Footsteps for? Footsteps is for students who are currently in Year 12 going into Year 13 in September 2016. The summer school is specifically designed to support students who are or who have previously been looked after by their local authority and/or foster carer. Students must have achieved 5 GCSE’s grade A-C to apply. It doesn’t matter if you’re not sure whether you’re applying to university or definitely are; we welcome applications regardless of your future plans! How much does it cost? Taking part in Footsteps Summer School doesn’t cost you a penny. We’ll even cover the cost of travel from your home to the summer school! Let us know if you have any concerns.
