MARCH Racket 2016

RACKET! MARCH 2016
THE NEWSLETTER OF HALE GARDENS LAWN TENNIS CLUB
SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR 2016 – 2017: You will shortly be receiving information and
forms about subscriptions for the new tennis year. As always, subs paid early (by the
end of March) are reduced. There has been no increase in subs for this coming year,
other than some alteration of categories for Juniors, and the abolition of Associate
category. Hale Gardens has a wealth of opportunities to play throughout the week,
at less than £3.50 per week: why not mark the new playing year by trying something
new? A coaching group, or Cardio, or by starting to come along to Club sessions
(Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m, Tuesday afternoons 2 – 4 p.m., and
Saturday afternoons from 2 p.m. ) We will be altering the numbers on the padlocks
on 1 April 2016 – the new number will be issued to members on 1 April.
COURT 2: Exciting news: Work on the new Court 2 surface is
scheduled by Euroclay to start on Monday March 7th, with some
preparation work possibly this week. Please be prepared to be
flexible about playing arrangements during this coming period.
MATCH PLAY: Hale Gardens has 11 teams entered into the Dorset summer League . They
are: Men’s 1, 2 & 3, Men’s Vets (45yrs+) Men’s over 60s, Ladies 1 & 2, Ladies Vets (40yrs+),
Mixed 1, 2 & 3. If you are interested in playing for a team (both home and away), please
contact Keith Bates or Mel Campbell immediately: [email protected] and
[email protected]
NEWS FROM THE COACHES: James Lilley is organising a Schools’ Tennis Tournament on
Friday 4th March 9.30 - 12.30. This will involve the use of 4 courts so only 2 courts will be
available for members use during this time. James and his team are also planning
fundraising activities for Sports Relief on Saturday 19th March where all coaching proceeds
will be donated to Sport Relief. This will not affect club afternoon that day which will go
ahead as usual.

HALE GARDENS JUNIOR OPEN TOURNAMENT 2016 :
Mon 28 March to Sat 2 April
Members always respond amazingly to requests for
support and help, without which the club could not
run the tournament. We’ll be contacting you with
more details of opportunities to volunteer.
HALE GARDENS QUIZ NIGHT Friday 8th APRIL
(NB CHANGE OF DATE)
Come with a group or come on your own. Bring your friends (non-members
welcome). £8 including Refreshments
Tennis balls: Used tennis balls are for sale at £2.50 a tube. Each tube containing 4
balls has only been used for one match. The tubes are in the top cupboard above the
coaches’ desk in 'Coaches Corner'. Money in one of the envelopes provided through
the letterbox at the bar.
John Cane: Those of you who have been members some time will be saddened to
hear of the very sudden death of John Cane, who looked after our grounds so well for
several years. Our condolences go out to Michelle and her family.
PARKING: One of the neighbours has indicated that it would be much easier for his
elderly father to exit his driveway if we parked on the POSTBOX side of Grove Rd. I’m
sure members will be happy to do this.
