Get to Know Your ICEWILA Team! Professor Timothy M. Lewis Sabrina Urbano Don Samuel ICEWILA Tarsha Simon Trevene John Leighton Ellis Romel Ramarack Meet our Chairman, Professor Timothy M. Lewis Dr. Lewis has recently retired from being Professor of Construction Engineering & Management at the University of the West Indies in St Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago. He obtained a B.Eng. and M.Eng. at Liverpool University before going to work with Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, Consulting Engineers, in Westminster, London. He then earned an M.Sc. in Technological Economics at Stirling University, before moving to Trinidad where he earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at UWI. He is a Fellow of the British Institution of Civil Engineers and the American Association of Civil Engineers, as well as the Association of Professional Engineers of T&T. He has published extensively on issues related to construction management and economics. He played squash for T&T from 1979 until 1985 and captained the team for two overseas tournaments. He later became President of the T&T Squash Rackets Association. He also captained the Stirling University squash team and won the University Championship on two occasions. He played cricket for Glamorgan Schools before captaining the Stirling University team, and rugby with the London Welsh Dragons, Stirling University and UWI. Currently he plays tennis with more energy than skill. He enjoys sailing and has skippered his yacht in many international regattas. He is now learning golf with all the problems that entails. His motto is “Anything worth doing is worth doing well” Meet our Honorary Secretary, Mr. Don Samuel Mr. Samuel has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and a M.Sc. in Construction Management. He is a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago (BOETT) and a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT). He is also a Member of the Project Management Institute (PMP) and a Chartered Engineer of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Mr. Samuel has 12 ¼ years of industry experience. Mr. Samuel is currently employed as a Manager with the University of the West Indies since 2012. His professional interests include project management, tendering and procurement. His hobbies include socializing, travelling and crosswords. His goal is to complete his PhD in the field of tendering and risk research. His personal credo is: “I am a hard worker who believes that one day the construction industry would be free from corruption, nepotism and poor quality work. I am a family oriented individual who is driven by a thirst for knowledge with the aim of increasing my professional competence on a global scale” Meet our Assistant Secretary, Ms. Trevene John Ms. John has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and is currently completing her M.Sc. in Civil Engineering. She is a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago (BOETT) and a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT). She is also a Member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and a Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Ms. John has 7 ½ years of industry experience. Ms. John is currently employed as a Design Engineer with the Careng Group since 2006. Her professional interests include the work she does with ICEWILA. Her hobbies include reading, event coordination, culinary arts, socializing, participating in outdoor activities and dancing. Her goals are to complete her MSc. Degree and to become a Chartered Engineer. Her personal credo is: “I am a very well rounded and driven individual who believes in working hard and playing hard. Life is to be enjoyed and lived well but in a responsible manner. I am always motivated to gain knowledge and grow. Meet our IT Officer, Mr. Romel Ramarack Mr. Ramarack has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering. He is a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago (BOETT) and a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT). He is also a Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Mr. Ramarack has 6 years of industry experience. Mr. Ramarack is currently employed as a Project Manager with the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation since 2013. His professional interests include the following research areas: structural, geotechnical, seismic engineering, contract & procurement and project management. His hobbies include cycling, football and travelling the world. His goal is to complete his PhD in the field of seismic research and to become a Chartered Engineer. His personal credo is: “To improve the seismic building codes for Trinidad & Tobago through the findings of my PhD programme and future continuous research.” Meet our Graduates & Students Officer, Mr. Leighton Ellis Mr. Ellis has a Dipl. in Structural Engineering, both B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Construction Engineering & Management and is currently completing his PhD in Construction Management. He is a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT) and a Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Ms. Ellis has 5 years of industry experience and 5½ years academic experience. Mr. Ellis is currently employed as a Lecturer with the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus since 2011. His hobbies include travelling, listening to music, singing, socializing, working out in the gym, participating in outdoor activities. His goals are to complete his PhD Degree and to become a Chartered Engineer in 2014. His personal credo is: “I am a firm believer in striving for a balanced life and that the principles of engineering are also applicable to our daily activities. I love increasing in knowledge and believe knowledge gained should be shared with all those interested in learning.” Meet our Honorary Treasurer, Mrs. Tarsha Simon Ms. Simon has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, a M.Sc. in Construction Management and a general MBA from the Anglin Ruskin University of London. She is a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT) and a Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). She is also a Member of the Project Management Institute (PMP). Ms. Simon has 8 years of industry experience. She is currently employed with a leading consultancy firm as a project/programme manager and works as a part time lecturer at the UWI. Her professional interests include management, contract administration and infrastructure. Her hobbies include graphic design, poetry oration, art, public speaking, debate and events coordination. Her goal is to obtain a challenging position as project developer in an organization that provides an opportunity to use her proactive nature, creativity, vision and strong background in engineering, project management and general management. Her personal credo is “To always be a self-motivated and achievement oriented professional with high energy, creativity, analytical skills with capacity for making things happen and achieving set goals through the development, training and motivation of people” Meet our Assistant Treasurer, Mrs. Sabrina Urbano Ms. Urbano has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and is currently pursuing a M.Sc. in Construction Management. She is a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago (BOETT) and a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago (APETT). She is a graduate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Ms. Urbano has 7 years of industry experience. Ms. Urbano is currently employed as a Civil Engineer with Trintoplan Consultants Limited since 2007. Her professional interests include structural and infrastructural design as well as learning about the latest structural software available on the market. Her hobbies include learning new languages, researching different cultures, reading and singing. Her goals are to complete her MSc. Degree and to become a Chartered Engineer. Her personal credo is: “Having worked with the best in the industry, I have come to appreciate the following advice given to me by Mr. Ronald Nurse. You get what you inspect, not what you expect, check everything and assume nothing. I try to incorporate this in every area of my life.
