SMART SERVICE INNOVATION SESSION
From technology to innovative energy services in just one day

In 2016, for the first time, a Smart Service Innovation Day was held as part of Smart Grids
Week. A day on which representatives of energy companies, together with technology
providers, innovative start-ups and users work on the development of new, digital business
models using creative methods. In 2017 the Smart Service Innovation Session will take
place as part of Smart Energy Systems Week in Graz on Wednesday, 17 May 2017.
Using this attractive format we create an opportunity, especially for new players (start-ups,
SMEs), to develop ideas in a trustworthy atmosphere together with established players
from the energy sector and potential users and to present the solutions to the energy
community as well as to potential partners and investors.
Challenge: In the smart energy systems of the future different sources of energy
such as electricity, heat or mobility will be linked intelligently to one another, thus
making a contribution to the optimization and stability of the overall system. Smart
Services, i.e. new energy services bring the
Smart Energy System to life – we have to work together to find new solutions!
New energy services focus on customers and users. New value-added chains come into
being and new players take on decisive roles. Let us assume that the necessary energy
technologies are available as well as data on generation and consumption. And that the
legal and regulatory framework can be suspended for one day: “What attractive services
can we develop for various energy customers as well as for b2b in the energy sector or
elsewhere to use renewables better, to link more energy sources intelligently to one
another, to employ assets more efficiently and to handle business processes more easily?”
Agenda: Your cooperation is needed!
Be inspired by our keynote speakers in the morning and afterwards start the innovation
process with an idea and a team. Your goal is to devise a business idea in just one day
under the supervision of experts. In the afternoon you will pitch your “Smart Service” to a
jury and a large specialist audience. The winning team will receive an award.
Methods: During the day the participants will become familiar with and use the most
modern innovation tools - Design Thinking Methods to understand the problems, wishes
and needs of their customers better, as well as the Business Model Canvas and Lean
Startup strategies in order to develop convincing solutions in the form of “Smart Services”.
