Use this study guide as well as your science notebook, worksheets, and homework
to help you prepare for our upcoming science test.  Our test on Crayfish and
Beetles will be this Friday, October 12th. We will also have a quiz this
Wednesday on the parts of a crayfish.
Crayfish
 Know that a crayfish is a type of crustacean (and be able to explain why)
 Know how to identify and label a male and female crayfish (egg pore vs.
modified swimmerets)-WEDNESDAY QUIZ
 Be able to label the parts of a crayfish (swimmerets, egg pore, modified
swimmerets, carapace, antennae, tail, walking legs, pincers)
 Understand how our class habitat meets the needs of the crayfish
 Infer why crayfish have pincers (hint: what purpose to the pincers serve?)
 Understand what territorial behavior looks like with crayfish, and what it
means when a crayfish has established a territory
 Be able to describe how to care for the crayfish
 Vocab: organism, structure, crustacean, elodea, habitat, behavior, territory,

 Know that a beetle is a type of insect (and be able to explain why)
 Know how to label the three parts of a beetle (head, thorax, and abdomen)

 Be able to describe how to care for the beetle
 Understand how the beetle’s feet help it survive
 Vocab: Exoskeleton, insect, terrarium
General Information
 Be able to describe some similarities and some differences between beetle
and crayfish structures
 Understand the five needs of an animal (space, food, shelter, water, oxygen)
