Ozone Supply Solutions

Ozone Supply
Solutions
Highly effective in application as a disinfectant & in
the oxidation of organic and inorganic compounds
- including taste, odour, colour removal and particle
removal from water supplies in conjunction with
filtration. Ozone is a globally proven and accepted
method of water treatment across a broad range of
applications.
Ozone
Ozone is a very strong oxidising agent,
second only to fluorine, and has been used
for many years in the sterilisation and
purification of water in both drinking and
waste water treatment plants throughout the
world. Ozone has the capability to destroy
a wide variety of liquid waste materials and
toxins.
Ozone is a more effective broad-spectrum
disinfectant than chlorine-based compounds.
Whereas disinfection of bacteria by chlorine
involves the diffusion of hypochlorous acid
through the cell membrane, disinfection
by ozone occurs by rupturing the cell wall.
There are few known bacteria or viruses
which are resistant to ozone. This is due to
the fact that ozone causes oxidation of the
protoplasm. The disinfection rate depends on
the type of organism and is affected by ozone
concentration, temperature, pH, turbidity,
oxidisable substances, and the type of
contactor employed.
Ozone is a
more effective
broad spectrum
disinfectant than
chlorine-based
compounds.
Ozone is produced by sending a high voltage
electrical discharge through air or oxygen.
This has the effect of splitting oxygen
molecules(O2) into two oxygen atoms(O1).
These oxygen atoms(O1) then combine with
molecular oxygen(O2) to yield ozone(O3).
Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen
with a very short half-life.
Advantages of Ozone
Ozone is one of the most active, readily
available oxidising agents, which rapidly
decomposes to oxygen leaving no traces.
Reactions do not produce toxic halogenated
compounds.
Ozone acts more rapidly, and more
completely than other oxidising agents,
reacting swiftly and effectively on most
strains of viruses.
Ozone is generated onsite, which reduces
the handling of hazardous chemicals.
Wastewater Recycling
Colour Removal
Process water
Ozone is used extensively in wastewater
treatment (industrial and municipal) by dye
manufacturers, textile mills, pharmaceutical
factories and other industrial companies.
Using Ozone aids in preventing the growth
of biofilms in process water loops. Ozone
is often more effective than chlorine in
destroying viruses and bacteria. Plus there
are no harmful post-ozonation residuals
that need to be removed because ozone
decomposes rapidly.
Ozone’s powerful oxidation potential has
made it an effective application of colour
removal for drinking water along with taste
and odour removal, which are also organic
based.
Reduction of toxic agents
Ozone waste water treatment is a thorough
and effective oxidation process and is a
suitable disinfectant for the organic matter
found in waste water. Ozone has been
shown to be effective in treating numerous
complex chemicals
Conversion of Chemical Oxygen Demand
(COD)
Ozone can make difficult to treat waste
amenable to conventional treatment
methods.
Cooling water recycling
The use of Ozone replaces halogenated
biocides in cooling water treatment. This
reduces corrosion rates in conjunction with
“inhibitors”, prevents discharge of halogens
to the environment, reduces bio-fouling
and reduces or eliminates scale-forming
minerals.
Drinking Water
Ozone assists in the destruction of bacteria
and viruses, algae and protozoa, whilst
improving colour, taste and odour.
Ozone rapidly oxidises iron, manganese
and several arsenic compounds, leaving
insoluble compounds that can be removed
easily by means of an activated-carbon
filter.
Enhanced Flocculation
Ozone may further enhance water
treatment processes to improve the
filtration of microscopic particles. Ozone’s
benefits include – its ability to readily
oxidise dissolved organic carbons, iron
and manganese, it can enhance floatation
and sedimentation characteristics thus
increasing filter effectiveness, and
potentially reduce the use of flocculant
agents. In addition, Ozone does not produce
trihalomethanes, byproducts of chlorine or
bromine disinfectants and assists with algae
control.
