THE AMAZING RASA I want to bring your attention to something: where stuff goes after digestion. We reviewed the process of digestion: chewing, swallowing, stomach and pancreas, the muscle at the end of the stomach (Pyloris), the work of the liver and gallbladder, the work of the small digestion, and the colon. We have called them phases and provided you with techniques to assist and become aware of your digestion. What isn’t digested becomes Ama, which has to be stored until the process of digesting it is complete. Ama can be stored in the intestinal tract until that storage is full up. Then it has to go somewhere else, into the body itself. To get there it enters the circulation where it can be distributed in the safest way possible according to the wisdom of the body. In Ayurveda, and in my experience as well, there are several parts to the circulation. In this trimester we aren’t going to review them all in detail (next trimester), but we will begin with the first part, the Vital Juice, which is also called Rasa. The Vital Juice is both substance and energy, and requires a degree of sensitivity to appreciate. It pervades the entire body and its aura. It fuels the energy that drives the acupuncture meridian system and is the fluid inside all body cavities and spaces, including the cells themselves, joint spaces, the cerebrospinal fluid, and the fluid that lubricates the surfaces of the lungs and the intestines. It is the home of the Vital Force. It is the medium by which you hear the OM, taste the OM, see the OM when your eyes are closed, and feel the OM in your body and around you. Rasa is not just limited to the body, but is ever present wherever Life is. You can see it and feel it around all living things, the Earth, certain places and in the rooms and homes where people live. But Rasa condenses in the bodies of the living, which exert almost a gravitational or magnetic pull on Rasa, giving it an intensity and a viscosity that is unique to biological beings. It contains light, information, vitality, and is an organ of consciousness, and imbues all structures with these properties. We can see and feel the state of the Rasa by looking at the light that shines in the eyes of ourselves or others, because it governs the fluid inside the eyeball. We can feel it in the aura around a person, its strength, its clarity and its love. We can appreciate it in the vitality each of us brings to life, and our resilience in the face of adversity and setbacks. In the Bible, it refers to Rasa as “flowing with milk and honey”, because milk is sweet and complete nourishment, and honey is the texture and thickness of the energy of love. If you have had these experiences, you will know what I mean. Rasa is clear when we eat love and light, and when digestion is good. Why? Because the desired end product of digestion of every emotion and experience is self love and light. The desired end product of every nourishment is vital juice with no Ama left over. Toxic states of emotion, old stories that have bitterness, resentments, grudges, and chronic poor eating for your constitution will show up as impediments in Rasa. When the discharge and drainage system of the body is impaired, then it will be harder for your Rasa to stay clear. Here are some of the emotional states that have access to the Rasa from the organs: grief and injustice (lungs); excessive joy and mania (heart); fear (kidneys); anger and indignation, over thinking (liver); worry and aggravation (pancreas); addictions, obsessions, and over driving (sympathetic nervous system). Frustrated plans and actions (urinary bladder); sense of alienation and overwhelmed by environment (small intestine); overexposure to outside influences and confused energies, excessive sentimentality and living in the future (gallbladder); overactive or frustrated ambition (stomach); lack of rest and enjoyment, workaholism and austerity (parasympathetic nervous system); rigid belief systems and old agreements that don’t work (colon). Genetic traits and tendencies also have an influence over the Rasa. The Rasa is very important because it is the ultimate nourishment and generator of the blood, the lymph, the muscles, tendons, bones, skin, hair, teeth, the tissues, the bone marrow and nervous system, and the organs and glands of the body. It is the meeting point between the spiritual, the energetic, and the physical. Whatever your situation, the Rasa can be energized, vital, and enlightened. Doing so will clear and speed up all healing, whether it is healing from Western Medicine, or so-called holistic and natural modalities. In theory if you eat only pure foods, and you take the time to digest everything completely before the next meal, if you experience only pure thoughts and feelings, if you have only love in your heart and you were raised by saints, if your schedule is arranged so that there are always breaks that you take between actions, then there should be no problem. In reality, that doesn’t happen on Earth. So we have to make allowances, and we also have to rely on the capacity of the system to cleanse and heal itself, which is ENORMOUS. At times our thrust and purpose and True profession don’t accord with the schedule of needs of the physical body. We need to comfort and have compassion for this beautiful creature we occupy. Health means that we do what is in our power to help this healing and resilient body to recover and to prosper. That we back it in love and true concern. One of our main tools to purify, cleanse, and restore health to the Rasa is the Mesa of Healing. Forgiveness, acceptance, love in action (ruthless love) and surrender are the pillars of Rasa health. Working with the mudras for these channels will do wonders for the Rasa, and help clear up years of past excesses and deficiencies. In our future work together we will learn how to take that beautiful clear Rasa and bring it to all of the tissues and organs of the body. We will learn to clear up our inheritances, our spiritual ecosystem, and the infections of the human spirit that cause so much grief. And you will be able to help others who wish such assistance in these areas as well.
