FUN RUN FOR SCIENCE UPDATE
The students had a blast at the 1st annual Bagby Fun Run for Science and
everyone has been enjoying showing off their Fun Run shirts. We are still in the
process of collecting and counting the proceeds from the event, but early
numbers are looking good! Prize winners will be announced on Friday, May 1st.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at the Fun Run! We couldn’t have
made the event happen without all the parent participation - running the water
stations, rest area, cooling stations, setting up, and tearing down. A special thank
you to Matt Lyon for being our DJ, and to Ms. White, who was instrumental in
getting the event off the ground! Thank you to Ms. Barb and Ms. Gina who
helped out behind the scenes, and to all the teachers and staff for their flexibility
and participation in the Fun Run. Thank you to all the parents who came out and
cheered the students on from the sidelines!

ACTIVITY DAY UPDATE
Hello Bagby Parents!
Activity Day is fast approaching on Friday, May 1st and we are still in need of
several volunteers to help the day run smoothly. This event is a lot of fun for
kids. All 1st - 5th graders participate in two different workshop out of a total of
28 workshops. Due to limited time, Kindergarteners participate in only one
event. Many of the workshops are lead by fellow parents. With up to 25 students
in each workshop and over 675 total students, a lot of assistance is needed in and
out of the workshops! If you are able to help, please sign up on Sign Up Genius

to get to the website, just show up at school 12:00pm on May 1st and we'll find a

All are welcome to Bagby’s Open House on Wed, May 20th!
The Rootbeer Float Fundraiser will be held from 6-7pm out on the back tables,
Art Vista Viewing will be in the Cafeteria from 630pm to 8pm and all
Classrooms will be open from 7-8pm.
Dear Families and Friends!
We invite you to a musical “Sharing” where we will show you the many things we
are learning in music class. This year the emphasis has been on Beat and Rhythm
and Improvisation. We are learning the difference between the beat and the rhythm
as well as experimenting with improvising on drums, mallets and ourselves (body
percussion ). Come watch us perform and show off our musical skills. We will
sing, dance, and play for you. It will be a lot of fun. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Hello Bagby Families!
The end of the year is quickly approaching and things are getting
busy. Please join us at our last Home and School Club meeting of
the year next week on Tuesday May 5th at 7pm in the
cafeteria. We will be voting on a number of important issues
including the 2015-2016 budget, the 2015-2016 HSC Board Slate,
and the spending of our surplus funds on an addition to the upper
grades playground area. As a member of the Bagby community
you are a member of the Home and School Club and we would love
to have your input.
Activity Day is this Friday May 1st and if you haven't already I
encourage you to volunteer. We are still in need of over 50
volunteers to help make this event a success. No need to be an
expert in any of the subject areas. Our workshop leaders are
ready to go, but they need helpers to make their activities run
smoothly. If you are a working parent consider taking a long
lunch this Friday and helping us out. We only need you from

Finally a big Thank You to Shayne Santos and Kari Swanson for
putting on Bagby's First Annual Fun Run for Science. It was a

PRINTER CARTRIGE RECYCLING
Want to help Bagby and do something good for the environment at
the same time? Mark your calendars - It's time for another printer
cartridge recycling event!!
Join the Bagby Home and School Club's recycling program and
drop off your USED INK JET CARTRIDGES, USED LASER
CARTRIDGES and unwanted WORKING CELL PHONES inside the
large boxes placed outside of Bagby's front office.
Items will be collected on April 29-30 and May 1
Bagby will receive cash for these recycled items which can then be
used to fund class activities and other school programs.
Thank you for supporting our school and our environment. Every
item recycled counts. Let's continue to reduce, reuse and recycle!

The next Garden Friday is May 22, 2015. Volunteers needed to help
plant for Summer! Also, we are looking for families to volunteer to

PROJECT CORNERSTONE
Dear Parents/Guardians:
This month our ABC Readers read the book, Thank You Mr. Falker, by Patricia
Polacco. This book is about a young girl whose family has a love of learning. At
age 5 she goes to school to learn to read. By fifth grade, she still can’t read and
is bullied by other students. She is a wonderful artist and is encouraged and
supported by her family. At last, her fifth grade teacher works with her to
discover her unique keys to learning. This is a story about a family’s love, a
girl’s pain and what happens when an adult believes in a child’s potential to
learn.
This book reminds us that caring adults can create webs of support to protect
and guide our children. As the most influential and caring adult in your own
child’s life, look for opportunities to help guide and promote behaviors which
support learning, acceptance, and achievement. Your actions will help your
child learn asset building strategies to empower themselves to enjoy life-long
learning.
How you approach learning new activities and skills helps your child face
difficulties and use multiple strategies to learn. Your own patience,
perseverance and resiliency in the face of difficulties, teaches your child all of
these skills! They are watching us and learning from us every minute! When
you are positive about learning something new, your child will be too.
When your child asks for help, reassure them that you are there for them.
Listen with empathy. Sometimes, simply sharing the problem helps young
people figure out what to do next. Your gentle hand on a shoulder, your
moment to listen intently, your smile and understanding will show your child
that they are not alone and that they can count on you to help them when they
need it.
Continue to practice and reinforce the many tools our students have learned in
the ABC lessons this year. These tools empower youth to choose how to react
when social difficulties, like bullying arise. With your help, your child will gain
confidence and resilience that are essential for success in social situations.
Your role as “#1 Asset Builder” will help your child bloom!
