Brief outline of the structure of the
programme
and
its

methods:

The course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and
theoretical understanding of effective, evaluated interventions for
children and young people experiencing a range of difficulties with
social and emotional aspects of their development that threaten their
psychological well-being.
The course will focus on acquisition of knowledge, understanding and
skills in cognitive behaviour therapy, its applications with children and
young people. It also aims to develop an understanding of both the
strengths and limitations of this approach and how it might best be
adapted in working with children, young people and their
parents/carers.
The course will be taught through a mixture of lectures, workshops,
seminars and group supervision. Participants will also contribute to a
web-based discussion forum and engage in video conferencing with
supervisors.
Board of Examiners:
Assessment will be through assignments and assessed case reports,
oral assessment of taped case-work and contributions to web-based
thematic discussions.

EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME:
1) To train individuals in an outcomes-based approach to promote psychological wellbeing in children
young people.
2) To develop knowledge and understanding of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and its strengths
limitations in working with children and young people.
3) To facilitate a forum for developing and sharing creative and flexible practice using CBT with children
young people.
4) To use theoretical knowledge to inform and develop accountable practice in working with children
young people with a range of difficulties, incorporating systemic variables.
