We learned that San Remo Music Festival (otherwise known as “Il Festival” or “Il
Festival di San Remo”) is an event held in San Remo, Liguria
(Italy) every year to celebrate the contributions that music has made to Italian culture.
The San Remo Music Festival is a popular song contest in which various artists from
different genres and age groups present original songs to a public who votes on the best
pieces. San Remo has contributed many famous songs such as Domenico Modugno’s
“Volare,” presented in 1958.
The following are the names of some artists who will present original songs at this year’s
San Remo. Pick one of these artists to research. You will write a brief (one page) paper
about this artist and about the song that he or she will present at Il Festival this year.

assigned; write a paragraph about the artist’s life and the contributions that he or
she has made to Italian music.
Next, find a picture of your artist to be placed on the screen as we listen to you
present the biographical information on the artist of your choice.
Finally, find one song by the artist (perhaps the song that they are to perform at
San Remo 2017. Display the chorus of the song on the screen as you introduce the
song. Discuss the meaning of the song and why you like it. Play the music video
for the class.
