East Boundary Lines Meeting 11/2/15 Questions and Comments with answers: Can you clarify – we are not losing students we are gaining – what does that do to East class sizes? It will cause a small increase in class sizes, so you will be very close to the other schools class sizes. The numbers I am showing you are only first through fifth grade, we don’t have kindergarten numbers yet. You can add 100 to 110 kindergarteners to each of the numbers on the screen. At what point do we decide enough kids are in a building and do something else? It would still be 5 to 7 years on our strategic plan. In two years, after the building on to elementary schools, we will revisit our strategic plan to evaluate if the plan would need revised for future building projects. The community said we want storm shelters. Originally it would have been another elementary, we added rooms to each school in order to add the storm shelters. Will you go back to the community when we get these buildings done to decide what to do next? After we finish the current building projects, we will tell the community this is our current plan, do we need to change it? Next school will be an elementary up North and then another middle school down south. About 28 years to decide if we need another high school. Will we be keeping KITES at East? Probably not, it will probably be at North or West since all elementary schools feed into it. It is a floating program that can be housed in a building with most space. Transportation is provided by the district. Since there are only four kids in Stoneridge, why are we moving them again? Is it because of the natural river boundary? The river makes natural transportation routes. We couldn’t really make a peninsula of one subdivision. Last time the board allowed the top two grades to remain at their current school. The board did not allow younger siblings because some are not born yet. My recommendation would be to allow this exception with this year’s third and fourth graders with parent transportation. People work in Springfield, so if we moved to open enrollment we would need to come up with a priority system. All choices will be given to the board. I need to make fiscally responsible decisions for the district. Buildings should be as equal as possible. If I have a fourth grader this year, will she will stay at East? Yes, we will get the buildings done. How are we going to handle lunches? Mr. Sappington: We have looked at combining some grade levels, but not starting lunch earlier than we do now.
